Thanks, I sort of thought that but wasn't sure. I'll let y'all know what happens in a few weeks with this one.
BTW, they went crazy this morning when I threw a chunk of sod in with them. Pecking and scratching and making a big ruckus. They found a few worms so I might not have as much luck...
It's weird, I put them in the coop yesterday and this one's comb and wattles were back to a pinkish yellow like the others that I am sure are pullets. Is it possible that "she" was just worked up and that's why they turned darker? My male production red on the other hand is still pretty pink in...
Thanks. That's what I thought but the pinking up and wattles have me nervous. It's the only one of the red sex links like that, I knew about the production red at 4 weeks because of that and I am worried that I might wind up with 2 roosters.
I have 6 RSL's about 8 weeks old and one of them has me concerned that she might be a he. I also have 6 production reds and I know that one of them is a cockerel. Here is the one in question.
Any thoughts?
The birdsmouth is the cut where the rafter ties to the top plate of the wall. On a small roof like a shed or coop, the easiest way to mark it is to set the board against the end of the ridge and the top plate and just scribe for the cuts with a pencil. If you are using 2x4's for the rafters, try...
I am almost finished with my coop and I have a few questions. I based it on the USDA plans for an 8x8 poultry house but I didn't put up the cupola. I did use 2x6 rafters and will be covering the soffit area with hardware cloth, will that coupled with the windows(still have to cover them as well)...
These 2 are the ones in question. The first one looks like the others as far as feathering but is the first one to my hand when i have food. Lets call it "Blondie".
The next one seems to almost stand guard of all of the others and was very slow to feather(still not covered as much as the rest...
I have 6 2 week old production reds and 5 have tail feathers and almost fully developed wing feathers whereas one has just little pin feathers on the tail and fuzzy "shoulders". I know that it's too early to tell for sure yet but I was told pullets get their tails earlier and cockerels are...
Hello,
I am new here, I have been reading through the forum for the last week trying to learn. I am in Somerset county NJ and had chickens when I was a kid but that was 30 years ago now. I picked up a dozen chicks a week ago so I have to learn it all over again. I need to build a coop and run so...
