Thanks
Give them plenty of water. Make sure they have access to shade and dirt. ( They can take dust baths to cool down.) They will be fine. But if they get overly hot I would dump water on them and place them in the shade. Only dump water on them as a last resort. It could scare them. So...
I have a flock of 4 BR's and 4 Buff Orps, I'm in Massachusetts and today we got to 82 it's pretty cloudy, but the girls are laying with their wings open and panting. Since they are only 4 months old this is obviously their first time in these temps...
I'm wondering if they will just acclimate...
Yes possums will kill and eat chickens lost my flock of 9 buff orps last night he he tore one up preety bad and the others he just killed, without eating.
It
It was a possum when he squeezed his way through the vent some of his hair stood stuck to the wire. As I examined it , it was a white hair with black tips, and when u googled it it matched with that if a possum, and those are the only animals I have seen in my yard at night , and have...
Also I found the entry point it was a ventalation window about 6 inches by 6 inches. That I was thinking about covering and never got to it. It's upsetting I couldn't even reap the benefits of my work in eggs. Maybe I will try next spring? I was thinking of setting up snares.
Thank you guys for all the support in my short time of being a chicken owner but I'm sad to report that those days are over. An animal got to the last of my chickens. I don't think I will be getting into chickens again or for a while. This is what was left if them when I found them this...
I put her in a small cage in the coop, now I'm reinforcing the coop with hardware cloth. I'm going to clean her up right after I'm done with the reinforcing. I feel like a bad chicken owner because every night I usually go out to the coop just to check in the chickens and last night I didn't I...
I had 10 buff orpingtons 6 wks old. Now I have 9 they were out in the coop and this morning when I went out there was only nine but there was no sign of a struggle or anything. Then when I examined another chick her leg was all bloodied up I just need to know what to do to increase her chance of...
Just to make it clear I'm in the middle , like I stated above I raise them in cages and try to let them free range at least once a day. I started doing so when I noticed the boredom that my one doe would build up. She would just find things to tear up in her cage, like the feeder water. So to...
As idealistic, this might sound not everybody who has rabbits can afford this approach either due to finances, and or space.
That's why for their safety, and their health they are kept in all wire cages. Now that's how I raise my rabbits, and once a day I let them roam the yard for excercise...
I am about to buy a coop from them their 4 x 8 coop is on sale. I spoke with Pat over the phone he seems really nice, and reasonable. Now I'm just skeptical due to this review...
Thanks for tha advice and word of encouragement, it's so nice to just have a place where I can talk chicken without people thinking I'm crazy, and or weird which my family and friends think I am.
I bought my chicks Purina Medicated Chick Starter ( crumble). They are 3 wks old now, and for the first couple of weeks I mashed up their feed by hand, because the crumbles are too big. So now I started giving them the feed with out mashing it, and they just go for the smaller bits and waste way...
Everybody is saying hardware cloth but to be honest it just depends on what kind of predators you have in your area. Like some might say that weasels can get through chicken wire, but not everybody has weasels, where they live. And not everybody has large predators roaming their backyards like...
That's awesome. I just have a question about buff orpingtons since I'm fairly new to chickens and I have 10 buff orpington chicks that I just want for eggs, because I can't have a rooster. Due to their broodiness will it be hard for me to collect eggs???
