    Short term feed substitute

Good to know. I actually ground up a mixture of 3 cups corn, 1 cup oats, 1/2 cup sunflower nuts. The duck loved it!

    Duck Development problem??

I have a lone duckling, (it's companion died) and I'm a bit worried about its development. It seems to be growing in size nornally, but it's wings are just as small as when it was a few days old. Got these from a store, dont know exactly how old but I'm guessing about 3-4 weeks as its just...

how to breed a certain rooster to a certain hen.

So I want to breed up some chicks again this spring. Last year, I had some mutts that turned out pretty bad! (Silver polish + Rhode Island red does NOT create a pretty creature!) Anyway, do I have the hen and introduce the rooster to her and let him breed her once a day and then grab the egg, or...

Grandpa explained to me how they worked, but he couldnt remember how the thermostat part went. Can't seem to find what kind of thermostat they...

    Very low egg production?!

My flock of 25 hens have recently and successfully gone through their first molt. They have been done for the past 3 weeks or so, they are all fully feathered and pretty now! But, I've only been getting 1-3 eggs per day!! This summer I was getting 18+ eggs a day consistently. Why the still super...

Really bad gash on hens back- how do I treat her?

Thanks everybody. Luckily I have an enclosure set up and I have her in it with feed and water. I washed the wound itself, but I will have to clean the rest of her later. There was a lot of dried blood on her. Would've done it right away but she was freaking out so bad I thought id let her simmer...

Really bad gash on hens back- how do I treat her?

My hen has a terrible cut on her back. Her side is covered with blood, and when I looked at the cut, it is clean through the skin. She has been very smart and was up on the roost all day to avoid pecking(smart lady!) what do I need to do for her?

    Gravely ill hen

As of now, her condition has improved a little bit. the purplish color has gone away significantly, she has see bit more strength, and the cardboard box I have her in (open top naturally) she managed to get herself propped upright in the corner! I'm thinking now that she is sick. Maybe it was a...

    Gravely ill hen

She was just fine this morning. Now she can hold her head up a bit and is responsive, but she can't stand up, is laying on on side, and her comb/wattle is purplish. She's also breathing heavy. What is wrong?? I have no idea what to do...

How to help feathers grow back

I have one buff rock, a real sweetheart. Anyway, she had been a roo favorite, and got some bare spots. I then put on the chicken aprons and they helped but the feathers wouldn't grow back under there. I now have her completely seperated in a divided cage (3 other hens in the same boat)and had...
