I'd make sure to get dairy goats or dairy/meat cross. If you get a straight meat cross she will barely be able to keep up with production for the kids let alone you. Also, they won't milk for very long before drying up again. Then you have many many months of feeding and getting no milk. Also...
I locked mine in the coop for about a week before I ever let them out and never had any trouble with them. I think it made them realize it was home base!
I have used it on one bird so far. I'm cleaning six tonight when I get home. I'm so excited to do multiple birds at once. I will try to post a video of it in action. I built mine with one side 1 inch taller than the other and left the bottom in the barrel with a hole on the low side to drain...
That is common with first eggs. Soon she will lay normally and the eggs will get larger over time. My first eggs were smaller than a ping pong ball but very hard shell.
i originally set out around 1 1/2 yrs ago with intentions of keeping 1 roo and 6 hens. that turned into 12. then 15.then 21. then 25. i currently have 73! however around 35 of those are headed to freezer camp very soon (30 of those are cornish crosses). i rate my case as....severe!
i really don't know. you could try separating him from the flock for a couple weeks. that would put him back down on the pecking order and maybe they could build a new relationship. the chances aren't great, but it's worth a shot. other than that...freezer camp
that's odd. my dad's broody always attacks the others if they get within 10 ft of her chicks. none of the other hens can get near her without her being on top of them. the rest of the time she's a sweetie. go figure. mama gone crazy! sorry i know this is no help to you.
first rooster i ever had was a leghorn/welsummer cross. i love him growing up but sure enough around 9-10 months old he got crazy. i kept putting up with it and it got worse. finally one day he snuck up on my gouged my pants with his spur and came for more. i picked up a piece of pvc and ended...
After wiping out my flock with disease and starting over I now have 71 chickens I'm feeding and not a single egg! 30 of them are CC for meat though! Of the other 41 there are a few roos maybe 5 and the pullets are all between 17 and 19 weeks. Some are starting to get red combs. I can't...
cut lid off of carton put eggs in big end up and put a block under one side of the carton. move it to the other side the same amount of times a day you currently turn them.
thank you for the responses. i got home to 5 hatched and another mostly zipped out but upside down from being rolled over. i opened it set him upright and grabbed the others. had another hatch after that so i guess all was not lost lol. it is still in there drying and as long as it doesn't cause...
