This is the coop we built almost 2 years ago, we started wth a 4X8X4 doghouse (top half) the window on the side actually had an AC for our 2 golden retrievers (now in doggy heaven) My DH took half of the floor out and added 2 feet to the bottem so I could stand up in it. The bottem hatch door is...

building my own coops from pallets and crates

another idea for your coop "flooring" is an old pool liner, Ive been using one for 2 years, cut to size,it works great, easy mainetenance, you can pull it out and wash off with a hose and scrub brush when needed. I also find it not quite as slippery as linolium. I also put my bedding over it, I use...

training to walk up and into the coop at night?

As a fairly new chicken owner myself(1 year) Ive learned here in this forum that its not a very good idea to let your girls sleep in the nest boxes, they will get used to that and your eggs will be VERY poopy as that is the time they poop the most. If you cant keep them out of the boxes, then I...

Home Feeding Ideas and Solutions Discussion Thread

I came up with this idea and it has worked out well, I wanted to make sure my feed stayed dry, we have high humidity here in NC, I took a ladies nylon knee high sock, filled it with rice, then tied a knot in it, when I fill up my feed bin I throw it in along with a little DE . What did you use for your inside walls?

I used an inexpensive piece of linolium(spelling?) on the wall where they roost, works great for cleaning, plus waterproof. Otherwise the rest of the coop is natural wood, it doesnt get dirty at all, we only have 4 girls now, lost our first a couple of days ago

    Our coop

Do the girls like the "litter boxes" ?? The pictures were taken back in april before they started laying. As time went by and I knew they were getting "ready" to lay, I could tell they werent exploring the "cat litter" boxes at all, I started worrying they would lay on the floor or ground, so...

    Our coop

Quote: Thanks, its funny you say well planned out, its actually a recycled dog house my husband built for our now 2 doggie golden retriever angels. The 4 feet up to roof was the original dog house, it was 4x8, yes, an air conditioner used to be in that side window, he took 1/2 of the floor...

This morning my daughter went out to do her usual, feed, get eggs ETC and Miley was laying under the roost, stiff as a board. From looking at...
