First hatch! Any ideas as to what these babies will look like?

I'm pretty proud of my homemade incubator! I found a tutorial online, and made one from a light bulb, an old foam cooler, and a thermometer/hydrometer. My husband even took some glass from a thrift store picture frame and set it into the top so I could have a window... So far, it's went...

Seven week old chick lethargic, "sleepy", keeps apart from flock...

Update: I have a trusted friend who is far more experienced than me with chickens & works in her family's chicken houses take a look at them, and she immediately recognized the starting symptoms of LT and recommended I cull them, so that's what was done. I'm sad, but it was the best thing to do...

Seven week old chick lethargic, "sleepy", keeps apart from flock...

I went and got the Corid and mixed it up in their water and all four drank from it...I hope that works! I also wanted to share the pictures of this little pullet...this was NOT the one that was sick yesterday morning. I've noticed that the area around her left eye has started to swell a little...

Seven week old chick lethargic, "sleepy", keeps apart from flock...

Thank you so much. They just started these symptoms this morning. I am going to get the medicine now...I'll update on them later.

Seven week old chick lethargic, "sleepy", keeps apart from flock...

Oh no offense taken at all, I just feel terrible about it. :( I baby all of my birds and this is the first time I've ever had a sick one...I feel terrible about them getting wet and just want to help them...

Seven week old chick lethargic, "sleepy", keeps apart from flock...

Like I said, I put them in a similar cage to what they were in before, in which they seemed to be doing fine. That 20% chance of rain was supposed to happen between 8 and midnight and never happened, so we went to bed. I most certainly would have brought them inside if I knew it was actually...

Seven week old chick lethargic, "sleepy", keeps apart from flock...

I bought five chicks Sunday, a Leghorn cockerel, two Leghorn pullets, and two New Hampshire red pullets, and was told they were about seven weeks old (the NH red looks older though...). My husband and I checked all over them for life/mites/etc and didn't see any. We brought them home and set...

    Small electric wire for foxes

Let us all know how the electric wires work out. Every single one of our sweet girls, and one rooster, were killed by something last night. Whatever did it tore right through the wire and got to them, and we are pretty devastated. But we remembered that my in-laws gave us a electric fence box...

    Hen acting "woozy"....?

I just got some hens from a trusted source (i.e. they were healthy when I got them), and when I went outside to check them, I noticed that one of them is acting woozy, like she's losing her balance a little bit. She's 21 weeks old, just started laying. Her wings are also droopy....any thoughts...

    The pecking order...

Normally, I would observe any new birds, but I got these from somebody I know personally and know that they are healthy. Thanks for the reassurance! My new hen is doing great now, but the 15 week old rooster and Ameraucana are still pecking at the 8 week old babies...I guess I just have to wait...

    The pecking order...

I've got 10 Leghorns in a pen and a younger Ameraucana hen and her friend, an EE roo, both of which are about 15 weeks, in a separate pen right next to my Leghorns. Last night, I got 6 eight week old Jersey Giants, and a 21 week old Jersey Giant. I put them all in at night, the 8 weeks old with...

    Pure Ameraucana?

Not yet...she's only 13 weeks old. I was told that she will lay blue eggs...

    Pure Ameraucana?

I got this gorgeous pullet last night from a friend of the family who says she's an Ameraucana. After reading about all the differences between Americana, Ameraucana, EE, and Arauna (spelling??), I just wanted to put it to the jury! :) Either way, she's beautiful and I love her already!

Will the time of day I feed the chickens affect their laying habits?

That's a good point...I'll start only giving them a treat in the afternoons. Thank you!

Will the time of day I feed the chickens affect their laying habits?

My chickens are fed through an automatic feeder (i.e. a pvc pipe that has a bend at the bottom that I fill from the top), but I go outside every morning to either feed them a treat (smashed up hard boiled egg, oatmeal, etc.) or just to check on them. I usually go out between 8 and 9 am. The last...
