Q on Infectious Bronchitis and Laying

Hi all, I made the mistake of bringing a commercial hen into my flock. It seems she spread IB, and lost some chicks. The adults wheezed a lot but did not die. However they have almost all stopped laying. Now some are moulting, my question is if they will come back into lay eventually or...

    A reluctant Sebright rooster.

Hi All, My new roo died, and not sure what the cause was. However, very interestingly the two chicks in the front of the picture above are now crowing. So turns out I have two Roos and two hens. Do people think that these two Roos (who are probably brothers) and have lived with me for the last...

    A reluctant Sebright rooster.

I had previously bought a sebright rooster but there was nothing happening between him and the ladies. After posting a pic, and people advising me he was a she, I bought another rooster. Now they are both fighting, so I think he really is a he, if you know what I mean..... Question is can I...

    A reluctant Sebright rooster.

Hi All, Well I let my sebrights out today for a forage, and they loved it. The attitude of these little birds is hilarious. They have already moved several steps up the pecking order, including bullying a big sussex and brahma into place. Some low level flying but stayed relatively close to the...

    A reluctant Sebright rooster.

Very coincidentally, after I came home from work today, we had our first sebright egg!!! Delighted - it is so cute. It is obviously the small one in this picture. Also, here is a pic of my sebrights. I think it is an impossible task to identify the male, but he is one of the front two (he was...

What breed is my new chuck?

Cowgirl - I think you are dead right! See the Wed entry on this link - http://www.omlet.co.uk/club/planet/planet.php?feed=10 says the same as you. Looks like they are silver duckwing welsummers! Thanks.

    A reluctant Sebright rooster.

Thanks Sharon - the only predator I need to worry about is the fox, and I only allow them free range when I am around the house. I wil upload some pix later on.

    A reluctant Sebright rooster.

Hello all, I am new to all of this, but have purchased 4 sebrights. three are hens and one a rooster (allegedly). I only have them little over a week- and I know it takes time for them to settle into a new location, and they do seem quite relaxed. So my questions are 1. I am not seeing any...

What breed is my new chuck?

Hi All - thanks for the suggestions. I bought the pullet from another breeder in Ireland, not a hatchery. When I google images silver grey dorkings I get pictures, some of which look exactly like her. Some links below...

anyone know of a fox deterrent?

Hi All, I see online that people advertise audio alarms and lights that deter foxes? I too cannot (nor would want to) kill the fox, so am looking for some other type of deterents. Has anyone had success with any of these products (before I revert to peeing) ? Thanks.

    Hello from Ireland!

Hello all, I am a new convert to the world of keeping chickens, and I have found the advice on this website to be second to none, so thanks! Keeping chickens is totally addictive. I simply went to a local poultry farmer to see his set up, and immediately took a shine to a few hens. I came home...
