I had a hen hatch 3 chicks. How long after hatching does it take to return to laying?

Well I learned something new! I was told he (and the other 4 that I’ve lost over the last 5 years) were English orpingtons.

When I purchased 5 birds several years ago, I purchased black Orpingtons. Always thought that is what I had. Being in here and seeing the resemblance to australorpe, now I wonder. Which is it?

And then there were 2! Staggered hatch under a first time broody. Going to have to move them into a safe place and forgo the rest of the unhatched eggs.

Hard part was that the owner said I insulted her. That was never my intention. Just never felt like I could make a confident “yes” choice.

We have walked away from the deal. Owner was insulted. My daughter will be sad. It was the right decision.
