Need ideas for moving my chainlink goose (dog) pen.

That looked like a great idea until I found the wheel prices! http://www.hooverfence.com/catalog/cpage47.htm 4 wheels at $35 a piece, ouch! I wonder if I could figure out how to rig up something similar on my own?

Need ideas for moving my chainlink goose (dog) pen.

I was gifted a chainlink dog pen to use to move my geese around the pasture. The idea is working great, but i'm starting to bend the pipes while (carefully) picking it up to move it. I was thinking I could construct a wooden base to secure the pen on top of that would keep it more stable while...

When do I give up and get her off the nest?

My goose has been sitting on 10 eggs since around the 7th of March (halfheartedly sitting a few days preceding). Since it's been at least a month, at what point should I give up and make her get off the nest? She's pale and doesn't seem to be in the best condition since she's barely moved for so...

Incubator light won't turn off, buzzing

I set up my incubator (gopherbator plans), and am almost through my first hatch (putting the eggs in the hatcher tomorrow). My light has stopped turning off, and instead dims and buzzes. When it's on, it functions fine. I've tried a new lightbulb, which didn't make a difference, and I redid the...

What to do with badly placed eggs?

One of my geese has now laid 2 eggs (though I took the first away). She laid the one I took away in a poor location, and now has laid the second one in a pretty equally bad spot. She's made a spot in the grass (hard to call that a nest...) against a barn that is raised about 8 inches off the...

Is it possible for a goose to lay this late in year??

I was just about to post the same question! My Geese just laid their first egg a few minutes ago. I believe it's my 2.5 year old tolouse. She chose to make a nest in a pretty open, busy location. I wonder if I can sit the dog house in the same spot, with the egg in it, and convince her not...

    Show quality geese?

I appreciate the opinions. I certainly know it's hard to judge by poor quality pictures. Speceider, since the primary purpose of these guys is cool pets, the Standard of Perfection isn't really in the cards right now. Unfortunately, $60 buys a lot of goose food. ;-)

    Show quality geese?

These guys are so hard to get pictures of! I may be looking at the wrong thing, but the pom gander has two equal lobes. One of the hens has a very tiny lobe on one side, and nearly touching the ground on the other. The other hen was somewhere in between. I think the embdens look small...

    Show quality geese?

Our state fair is coming up, and I think it could be fun to try showing our geese. I wouldn't want to put them through the stress of travelling and spending so much time away from home if they aren't show quality though. I'm not sure how much I believe it, but the man we bought our embdens...

Interesting breed/color of white egg layer?

I know I want a white egg layer in my flock, but the breeds i've seen haven't been terribly interesting. Can anyone point out some that have interesting colors or are otherwise a unique breed? One that did catch my eye is the Exchequer Leghorns: (Picture is Peachick's) Also, i'm not...

Cleaning up the feathers in the yard?

I have 11 geese, and it seems that everyone is moulting. My yard looks like there's been a massacre with all the goose feathers. Anyone know of any quicker ways to clean them up than doing it individually by hand?

    Higher quality feed?

As i'm doing more research on getting ready for geese, it seems that many (most?) people feed Flock Raiser. I took a look at the ingredient list today, and of course, it's typical Purina least cost formulation. I won't feed my cats, dogs, or horses anything that's not a fixed formula, and i'm...

    Toulouse vs American Buff?

Thanks for the thoughts guys! The non registration is such a bizarre concept to me, with my background. I never stopped to think about the egg vs. live birth, so that makes a lot more sense now. I know some horses that would be worth a lot more if they too could be sneakily make into x breed +...

    Toulouse vs American Buff?

I think we've pretty much narrowed it down to these two geese, and are having a hard time deciding between them. These will be our first geese (or fowl for that matter, chickens to come later). We plan on having a pair or trio. They will have an enclosure, but be allowed to free range within...

    Show me chicken colors

I'm gearing up to get my first pet chickens, and the more I research, the more I realize that i'm leaning towards certain colors just as much as certain breeds. I can't seem to find anywhere online that gives a comprehensive list of the various colors. About the time I think i've gotten them...
