Thank you for your reply. We have discussed doing what you suggested. I guess I am worried Mum has forgotten her and may hurt her. She has just had some yogurt and crushed egg and is settling down for the night. I will take her out with the other chicks and Mama in the morning and watch and see...
Hi, this is the poor little one (2 weeks old) who was kicked in the head by a scratching chicken. She has another wound on the other side of her head. (Most of the colour is iodine, there is no bleeding). She was hurt Sunday afternoon, it is now Tuesday evening. While she is a little better, I...
Hi all,
our week old chicks were out with Mum and flock and it looks like she was kicked in the head while they were scratching around. She has a wound on either side if her head. She is still breathing but just lying there with her eyes closed.
Should we try to save her and is there...
Oddly enough they all have a black spot on their heads, (Sussex). All are well and happy this morning, I think she is an overprotective mamma. I wish she would let them out for long enough to eat and drink though, they are 4 days old now.
Happy days!! I think she was just pecking at them to get them under her, and I was seen as a threat, or just a downright nuisance. All are well and happy this morning.
I am still concerned that they might not have eaten or had a drink. I know when a hen hatches her own eggs they don't need to...
I just put another post up, she is pecking them whenever they come out from under her, enough to make them squeak. Is that because I am there, or hasn't she really accepted them?
We gave our frizzle 3 babies last night, all seemed well, but whenever they come out from under her she is pecking them. Is this tough love or hasn't she accepted them? If she hasn't I will take them away from her.
Hi all,
We gave our broody sizzle 3, 3 day old chicks last night. While all seems to be well I am concerned that it is lunchtime the next day and as far as I know they haven't eaten or had a drink.
I put food and water in the enclosure and Mum is appreciating it, but babies are still tucked...
crazy chicken. Now she's sitting on the fake eggs again. If I take them out from under her she glares at me and pushes them back under her again. She never was the brightest bird in the coop.
If she stays put for another 4 days she's getting babies. I'll just go whisper that in her ear.
