Ok well I will definitely do the Vaseline. I read the symptoms and looked at pics of fowl pox and it just doesn't seem that way to me, I know it's difficult to diagnose from just a picture. They're not as raised/sore-like as I have seen in fowl pox.
I have looked at a few images of fowl pox and I don't think that is what it is. I know in the picture I posted it looks a bit crusty but I had dusted some diatomaceous earth on him previously. They're not raised sores it's more flush with his comb. Thank you for your reply!
Thanks for the second opinion of frostbite as well. Great idea on the Vaseline, I have read about that before but forgot. It would make sense because he does have the biggest comb by far, we have an antibacterial/antibiotic that I can treat with topically since we were messing with it and...
Yes it could be that, you're right. We have a couple heat lamps in their coop but it has been pretty cold the last couple nights. May have to add a few more lamps. Thank you!
Hi BYC,
So my Silkie Rooster has some little black dots on his comb (none on waddles). I don't see them anywhere else so far. We tried wiping it with warm water and nothing really came off, just a little bit of brown on the cloth. We tried scraping a little with my thumb nail and maybe a...
Thank you for the suggestions. I put a couple of mirrors in there for them, which seems to be a good distraction. I put a few blue shiny rocks in there for them too. I'll try some eggs but they are on a high protein turkey starter. Seem to be doing better now, though I do think the...
Thank you for the suggestions. I added a few shiny rocks in there for them to peck at and some mirrors which seems to get their attentions away from their buddies as much. It is obvious that the Narangensetts are a little bit more of an aggressive breed though still compared to my blue slates.
Thanks oldhenlikesdogs - I actually have some blue rocks that I will try putting around their brooder. I also read putting a bit of salt in their water can help for some reason, so we will see on that too.
Good to know on Narangensetts for next time.. Still got a while to deal with the...
Hi everyone,
So we got two Blue Slate turkey poults and two Narangensetts (we plan to process them, just wanted to start small). These guys are just three days old, and I saw one of the narangensetts peck one of the blue slates in the EYEBALL. He got both eyelids and the poor guy can't hardly...

Thank you all for the welcome and great ideas. Love the idea of tossing treats, as of now when I hold out my hand with a treat they run. I will just have to be patient.
Thank you again!
Hello from Colorado,
We have two ducklings that are now 8 weeks old. A Blue Swedish named Pearl and a Silver Appleyard named Blanche.
We are hoping to get some geese and chickens later on. As a new owner this website and forum has been very helpful to me already, so thank you!
I'm wondering...
I have an Appleyard duckling and a Blue Swedish duckling. I had three others but they all died very suddenly. Got a necropsy done and the suspicion is New Duck Disease. The vet wants to have some cultures grown and antibiotics tested but it is expensive.
The Blue Swedish is pretty healthy...
I bought five ducks a couple of weeks ago. After having them for just over a week, one Pekin died, and soon after my other Pekin died. It seemed rather sudden, the ducks seemed a little lethargic and more hesitant to stand, but nothing very obviously wrong. I was there when the first Pekin...
