i have four crele old english game bantam chicks who are about a week and a half old. i ordered from a hatchery and all of the chicks died but five of them... these four and a golden duckwing. i have been wanting a boy really badly, because my last rooster, who passed away in november, was an...
just looks like bad breeding. wyandottes have rose combs or the "smooth" ones. the "bumpy" ones you are seeing show us that they have been mixed with a chicken that has a single comb, or the typical kind you see on chickens with the long points.
as for sexing with combs, wyandottes are a little...
probably an ee. i had a white bantam with a single comb and white legs, and she still ended up laying those blue eggs regardless of her being really mixed.
oh, okay, then the one on the right had that red star coloring, but is an ameraucana/ee mix also. watch out for that one though. ee's with red coloring tend to be male.
okay, id say the the two black ones are cochin or cochin mixes, (that one with the big ol eyes though looks very australorpe...
i dont worry about that either, its just kind of lame to be surprised with a boy you were convinced was a girl all along lol. good luck with your little fellas. i can tell theyre in good hands.
yeah, i can usually accurately sex chicks at 4-5 weeks, but id never raised a female from this age, only a male. so i didnt know about the ultra small comb size. good to know. (: i remember my bbr male having a pretty fleshy comb at a young age so that is what i will watch for. as for color, i'm...
the two black ones on the left... look like a female and then a male australorpe. (but the male might be a cochin if it has feathered legs) the next one over looks kind of like a female ameraucana mix, but i'm not too sure. then, i see a dark brahma female. the one on the right looks like a male...
that's a bummer. and yeah, it is really strange! that's what you get from hatchery babies though.... inconsistent breeding. but yeah, see how they mature.. they may be a a nice addition to the family, or maybe not. it's kind of a toss up with these guys because they can be gentle giants, or big...
cant be a langshan.. they only come in blue or black. D'uccles, I have no experience with, but that color doesn't seem right to me either. My best guess would be a cochin of some kind... I'm going to guess it'll end up being white with black or maybe even blue somewhere. perhaps it'll be splash...
hmm... yes, it looks like a young dark brahma rooster. i had a dark brahma rooster that matured very slowly. sometimes they surprise you like that. the dead giveaway is the pointy hackle/saddle feathers with the white lacing thats starting to emerge from the baby plumes. theyre good roosters...
yes, they should have pointed crest feathers at four months
here is a photo of my silver laced polish cockerel at 5 weeks, next to my buff laced pullet who was also 5 weeks
you can already see his feathers getting super streamery, and shooting straight up rather that poofing out into the...
my oegb's arrived in the mail today. i ordered spangled, crele, and golden duckwing. i'm curious to know which babies are what color, because there are more than three patterns than i can clearly see, so i'm not sure what exactly i have.
i have only one of these
some of these
and these...
