It is a soft/no shell egg with a squiggle of membrane attached. We have found one other similar egg in last 10 days and one hard shell egg with a squiggle of extra shell. Reasonably sure it is from an Ancona duck or maybe a Rouen duck.
This strange egg came from a duck, this is her 2nd season of laying and she has laid several normal eggs and then this happens. Is it a symptom of something worrisome? Should we try to up their calcium?
Hi! My husband and I are thinking about getting birds in the Spring for meat. We have layers now. We culled an older hen a few weeks ago and the soup was wonderful. Our questions: how much feed can we expect to need for say 25 birds. We are looking at Cornish crosses, they are 8weeks to...
Lol! Remember the "old days" when the Avon lady would come visit our moms and leave those teeny tiny lipsticks? Too bad they stopped that, those would be ideal :)
Interesting. My ducks are doing this once in awhile too. I was kinda worried but now I can see where it may just be cycle changes. Birds are mysterious and so much fun.
Here we have 3 examples of extreme duck eggs and 1 normal (for ours) chicken egg.
Thanks y'all :) any ideas on how to make her part of our flock without her getting picked on by our older birds? We have some nasty weather coming in tomorrow and want to put her in the coop but 2 of our hens have decided they don't like her :( free ranging in the yard they do ok, she just...

Hi All, my husband found a wayward chicken in the ally behind our home. She had evidently escaped an attack by something. Lost all the feathers on her bottom and has a gash that is healing nicely. Poor girl, all freaked out though. Anyhow he caught her and we have added...
I live in Springfield Mo and have a beautiful Blue ancona drake that was hatched May 2013. He is mature and breeding, a bit too much actually. He is wearing out my 4 hens, one of which is slightly disabled and we love her so the new drake has to go. Anyone out there (in my area) want to do some...
I don't have a clue what they are, I gotta tell you though that they are adorable and appear very healthy & happy. I liked the comment about "Sizzles" I had not heard that before. I admit when I hear the word "sizzle" in the same sentence as "chicken" my next thought usually involves "gravy"...
That was a few days ago, after day 2 "Buffy" was bouncing and playing, foraging. This was a first for her. Her sister chick had become symptomatic so we started her on same regime, she had her final of 3shots today and is also playful and foraging. I plan to switch the duramycin out of water for...
Following the old thread here we decided to give our 8 wk old Americana/EE chick the Tylan but reduced dose to 1/2cc due to size and shot her in the thigh because her breast is tiny, crop was full and we were uncertain. Hope this works! Thoughts or additional advice is welcome. We also decided...
Supposed to have been all hens when sold to us. We are suspicious about the 3 with bigger, redder combs and darker feathers. They looked identical at 2wks of age, had the defined "V" and the eyeliner that are noted for females. Now at about 6 wks they are looking a lot different. We love them...
