I don't know what they are at all.
I was giving one of our birds a once over. She is scrawny compared to the rest and frequently picked on. Her comb/wattle got beat up by another hen a while back and I was checking how it is healing when I noticed in a tiny, I mean barely visible little...
Ok here is the rundown on Mrs. B
1) What type of bird , age and weight.
Dark Cornish hen, she is about 6 months old and weighs an average amount for a dark cornish. She is not over or underweight.
2) What is the behavior, exactly.
She is limping badly. Refusing to use one leg when walking...
I knew it would be yesterday or today, Little Red had been making the nest boxes all nice and cozy and I watched her for 20 minutes this morning trying out each of the 3 nest boxes. I finally left because I figured, "a watched chicken doesn't lay" and I was right!
First egg!!! got it today, it's tiny and I love it. It's from the only hen who I think will be laying for a few more week. They are all just 20 weeks old. My RIR..
She is by far the most mature physically of them all.
I know I don't want to hurt a cat really, or rehome it if it is a nice kitty... I am just sick of the neighbors loose animals...I know many bycers can empathize..
I would never dump a cat or dog in the country that is just so mean to the animal. I too would be devastated if one of our kitties...
I just keep repeating to myself.."I don't want full o n neighbor feud"...
I'm not worried about the big girls but the free ranging 12 week olds are more susceptible I know... Also I kinda just want to send a message to the neighbors about their darn animals...I was doing them a favor in a big...
So our very crappy neighbors haven't been an issue since their dog attacked our dog on our property and I flat out told the woman if that dog shows it's face on our (now fenced) property again I am going to nail it with a shovel with intent to kill and call animal control. She got the message on...
I haven't read the responses but inevitably someone will say "tie a dead chicken to it's neck"...Ugh, it doesn't work it makes your dog stink..
For every 1 dog that it works for I'd wager there are 200 that it didn't work for and it's just disgusting...
I am of the mind that it takes A LOT of...
Goodluck!
You will feel awesome when you look at your finished products and realize you did something that most people are incapable of even thinking of doing.
Just uh don't freak out and start crying if one of your "kills" doesn't go so smoothly in the beginning...Because from experience...
I have been searching for the answer to this question for nearly a half an hour.
We want to eat our Dark Cornish hen...She looks so yummy and is getting big. DH gave the ok (I have been drooling over her for weeks because I've read how amazing they taste).
I just want to know what is generally...

In all honesty when I first joined up here, I was kinda horrified at how many people were like just SSS the dog or whatever. Some of the more extreme responses still irk me but after the neighbor's dog took one of our hens I can confidently say I would kill that dog in a heart beat (for...
I posted a while back about the neighbors dog that killed one of our chickens and is just in general a total PITA and an darn terrible dog (coming from someone whose favorite breed is this dog)...
We have been slowly constructing a fence to make sure our dog never EVER gets onto their property...
so for all the people who bait their homes with poison..how do you handle rotting bodies all over the place, in your walls etc...that just grosses me out more than the living critters.

umm I never said just because a renter has a pet the landlord must provide a fence my point was a renter is NOT required to provide their own fence either but they aren't absolved from keeping their animals in the yard regardless. If there is a fence and a renter's dog destroys it then...

If the fence isn't enough to hold their dogs, they need to do something that will, chain them up, fortify the fence whatever.. my point was that renters in general aren't bad or lazy because they aren't going to shell out big bucks to make unnecessary improvements on property that isn't...
