Hi All! 👋
I work at a Botanic Garden in Northern Indiana. We were gifted 2 ducks, a Pekin & a Khaki Campbell. The Pekin was killed by a predator within a few days. We would like to get more ducks to keep the Khaki company. What breed would be best for weather & evading predators?
We've had a Pekin for several years & acquired an Indian Runner just this summer. I'm not familiar with the hardiness of Indian Runners. The 2 ducks stay on our pond & will not go voluntarily into a shelter. We have an aerator, so an area about 15' x 6' is free of ice right now. It is...

We have offered all flock pellets & cracked corn. They just eat around the pellets,so cracked corn is mostly what we feed the ducks. Also lettuce scraps when we have them. They get fish food when we feed the fish in the pond. He is always curious about buckets, so it might work to offer water...
I noticed one more thing. He is growing new wing feathers. A little more active today. Ate a little fish food & picking around the pond with the Pekin. Still not quite himself. I may see if we can test the pond water. Would it be good to offer water in a waterer?
Thank you Miss Lydia! He is drinking however it is difficult to add anything to his water because he drinks from our pond where he hangs out with his Pekin girlfriend. I do appreciate the information.
Is it possible for him to be bothered by fireworks? There are a lot of fireworks going off...
This is the 2nd day I've noticed our Muscovy Drake not eating. He is lethargic, just laying under the shade of our irises. He has refused cracked corn & fish food (usually his favorite). I'm not sure where to start, short of taking him to the vet.
I would like to add our success story to this thread. Our 8 yr. old RI Red had sour crop & we searched your website for diagnosis/treatment help. Our vet said the Monistat was worth a try & wouldn't hurt. It took the full course of treatment but it worked! We cut the 3 day Monistat into 3rds...
I do want to add that I agree with Sally F. & the Guru of Yap that Science Diet is a very good food. It's what we sell at our office & what I feed my indoor cats. It is more expensive & not everyone can afford it (I couldn't without my discount). Two of my cats have urinary tract issues &...
Hi red,
I'm new to the BYC forum but not new to cats. I am a receptionist at a vets office & have 5 indoor cats & 2 feral outdoor cats.
I'm not an expert but have some experience. It is recommended to feed some canned food along with the dry. I feed Friskies to my ferals. It's a good quality...
We are new to chickens & have learned some things the hard way. I posted part of the story in my introduction so I don't want to be redundant. We have an original remaining flock of 1 rooster & 2 hens about 2 yr. old. We lost 2 recently to a predator (who is hopefully being trapped as I...
Hi!
My husband Mark & I (Amy) acquired some hens & a rooster from a friend. We had 1 black osterlorp, 1 buff orpington, 1 RI red hen, 1 RI red rooster & 3 RI red/buff orp mix hens. I work at a small animal vet & Mark is a dispatcher for a local trucking company & part-time wanna be farmer. We...
