Hello ~ I have a friend who has a hen in his flock who is not well. Her legs have gone a bit white and scaly and her vent had slight stick butt, which we gently cleaned with warm papertowels. His biggest worry is that just below her vent, it is dark purple (almost blackish) and swollen looking...
Thanks all ~ I guess to clarify ~ I had a volunteer help me build the coop (it is at a mission) since I am not a builder. We had opague roofing material but not enough so the builder built a more traditioanl roof over the hen house. The girls are about 6-7 months and had not started laying yet...
We just finished our coop and have two Black Australorps. The coop is not near any electrical outlet and I am wondering if there are any solar options for keeping a bit more light and heat during the winter! Thanks for your help. Amy
Our meat birds are almost 9 weeks. I am learning how to butcher tomorrow. One of our meat birds was dead this am! did I wait too long, is it possible he had a heart attack?
What do I do with him now? Arggghhhh and help! This stinks.
My meat bird (about 5 weeks old) pooped today and there was red in it. The stool is also very loose. I moved them into their own brooder because they were getting too big for my other brooder and chicks. So ... I am just curious as to what this could be.

Hi There, we had a chick hatch this am, and he has dried Crusty. Meaning he has a bit of membrane stuck to his neck and the top of his head is crusty. Any ideas, is he gonna live. Just curious?

Well~ our chick hatched this morning, but the shell is stuck to his right wing! He is moving around a lot, his peep is strong! Will the shell work itself off?
