So, out of nowhere today, this little all brown creature showed up in our backyard. We are not by water or ponds, but have a flock of laying hens. We raised Pekin ducklings and this looks nothing like them. It is all brown, with a brown pointy beak, and black webbed but round feet and is very...
My BO roo is long gone. He was nasty, would attack me the minute I went out the door!! I have not had good luck with any roo's, so we are a roo free farm!
I have 2 hens, one Buff Orp and one Cochin that seem to enjoy going in the nesting boxes and eating eggs, it is starting to affect my egg supply. I caught the Buff Orp egghanded with it all over her beak and her breast.
I caught the Cochin a few days ago in a box kicking an egg around and...
Um, they will eat anything and everything! When I cook a whole chicken my hens get the carcass to clean and they go banana's, oh they love banana's also....Can't think of anything they won't eat. I do the same, scrap bucket on the counter. The dogs and cats look sad when I head to the coop with...
I have a naked neck, she lays nice eggs, and is very cold hardy in our harsh winters in Wisconsin. Her mother adopted a chick that another hen went broody with till they hatched, then forgot about, it was cute. They are nice, quiet birds. Some say they are ugly, but they still lay eggs...... As...

Poor thing, looks like she has asthma!
I have a hen that sounds like your does, I just figured it was a sneeze, she's been that way for a while. She does not open mouth breath at all, and is otherwise healthy....I'll be interested to see what others say.
Thank you, thank you, thank you! I am thinking about using the Ivomec Eprinex, I am familiar with that, we have used it on our cattle. It's a bit pricey, but I think worth it. Thank goodness we just cleaned the coop a few weeks ago, so cleaning again won't be too bad. I will also do the Sevin...

If a rooster cannot learn about respect through simple persuasion , then a rooster can certainly learn about soup though immersion.
What she said!
I have read way too many topics with so much different advice, use Sevin, don't use Sevin, use wormer, etc. I would like someone to tell me what has worked for them.
I have been checking my hens for mites on and off because they seem to always be preening, and have some feathers missing on the...
That naughty thing finally caught me in the wrong mood. I tried to be the dominate one, gave him plenty of chances, but he came after me when I was in a "foul" mood! He will now be simmered, then made into rice soup!
Actually I was tired of worrying about when he was going to go after someone...
I see you are from Wisconsin also. I have ordered from McMurray and had very good luck, chicks are healthy when you get them, great variety. They are in Iowa, so the trip in the mail isn't that bad, and the shipping is reasonable.
