Okay so just a little while ago I bought a nice coop. I love it, except I probably should have gotten one twice the size! I am also very dependent on my expensive auto-door. To solve my issue, I am considering joining an additional coop to the existing one. The chickens would have to pass...
I am lost! How can I save my pullets? I posted a couple of weeks ago that I found one pullet very thin and wobbly . She couldn't really stand. I had already treated all with Corid since I had seen some strange pink droppings. I isolated her right away We tried to get her to eat and gave her...
Edie couldn't walk this morning and she is very thin. She is about 14 weeks old I think. She is housed with three other pullets. I though some poop looked suspect, so I treated their water with Corid (5 days strong dose, 5 days the preventive dose). I couldn't tell who was the sick one because...
I set up some non - dead - end hiding spots and let the flock free range in the afternoons (as they have in the past). The newbies got a nice afternoon wandering around the run and eating and drinking their fill. As the afternoon went on, we would add one or two of the nicer hens in the run...
TSC sold me a similar "grab bag" last year. I noticed the same way you did. One got huge real fast and would just lay by the food and eat. I gave her to a needy family right before the holidays. I didn't want to see her suffer.
Long story, but the short version is that I have 3 new hens (about 16wo) that I am trying to integrate into my flock of 9 1yo hens that were all raised together. They aren't killing "the newbies", but they chase them so much they all just hide all day. One is brave enough to come out a bit, but...
I painted mine to match the coop I just used regular outdoor paint I'm glad I did it, but it would have been easier if I had done it before I attached it to my coop!
When I lived in GA folks were always in public areas gathering up the pine needles to use as mulch in landscaping. I gathered the cones because they were beautiful!
I am in Virginia, but every country I have lived in has some sort of animal shelter. If they can't take a duck they should at least be able to find resources
I have just the (now bare) ground in my run. After a heavy rain I was left with a muddy mess. I then started raking the fallen leaves into the coop. That works great. The chickens love it and they have chopped the leaves up in just a few days. I have a lot of trees, but in my former neighborhood...
