    Roost

I have 10 chicks that will be 4 weeks tomorrow. They are in a pen in the basement with a heat lamp (soon to come out) at one end. The pen is 3.5 foot by 7 foot. I want to put in a roost but don't know the proper height or location. Any idea's? Thanks a bunch :)

Sounds good and thanks!!!! i was going to wait till at least 8 weeks before I let the two groups mingle. My thing is trying to get this whole thing done before the cold weather sets in again this fall. Need to have all living together by the time it gets chilly. My run is 13 foot by 30 so I...

    Trying to figure this out

I currently have 6 RIR mixed hens (They are brown and I assume they are a mix with RIR plus they have some greenish marks on their backs) With an age range of 1 to 4 years. I have had these since last september. I also have a roo that also has some RIR in him along with something that gives him...

    New Peeps

The corral is sitting in a 4X8 pen that I built for just this. I believe they will be able to stay in there till it is time to go out and might the rest of the flock. From what I have read this should be around 12 weeks of age. Am I correct in this time frame?

    Food/Water in or out?

I currently only have 7 birds, they have a inclosed (Chicken wire) run outside that is connected to the coop. They do not free range. In the morning around 7 or so I open the little hatch and allow them into the run where there is food, water, snacks, and things they scratch up from the dirt. At...

    Spring time ????

With the days getting longer and springtime right around the corner, I am wondering if this is giving my hens a bit of a boost. I have 6 Rhode Island Reds and one RIR rooster. All this winter it has been hit or miss on getting even one egg from the hens. Two weeks ago, had a bit of a spirt with...

    Quick Question

Just getting my coop together I know I missed the spring run of chicks. A friend of mine offered me some 3 year old Rhode Island Reds..... Given they are three years old, how long do you think I can still expect eggs??.... Thanks for your help with this! Pete

Very new to having chickens and figuring everything out. I have a 4X6 coop attached to a 12'X22' screened in run. Will only have 9 layers and one rooster. My question is, if I let them out to the run say at 7 in the morning and leave the coop door open for them all day, will they return...

    Feed/Water inside or out?

Very new to all this, in fact my coop and run are still being put together. I have a 4X6 coop with 6 nesting boxes. My run is an old 22X12 greenhouse (all glass removed). My question is from what I have been reading, an age old question. Should I have the feeder hanging in the coop or out in the...
