Thanks so much everyone. I came back from work to a lot of good advice. I think we'll get rid of two (I like to have one around) because it sure doesn't sound like things are just going to work out. Now I just have to decide who to give away!

The coop is 6 x 8 and I can stand in it. There are multiple perches and nesting boxes. The yard is maybe 25' x 12 feet (ish). I was really hoping that since they grew up together, they would get along. Sigh.

At the end of last March I hatched 12 eggs (barred plymouth rock). 11 of them have grown to adulthood. Five were roosters. We gave 2 away, and seemed to have a stable flock with 3 roosters and 14 hens. Ferdinand, the smallest, and the one with foot deformities, was dominant, but no one was too...

Our first hatchling zipped about 17 hours after pipping. One of them zipped 36 hours after pipping! All of them had a signif amount of time pass b/w the two events. I have read in some posts that people have had their eggs move much more rapidly, but not our little group of barred rocks. Enjoy...

It's a few hours into day 23. Out of 13 eggs we have 12 live chicks, and one that died after pipping. The dead one was the last to pip, and he/she died very soon after making quite a nice pip. Not sure why. Here's a picture of the post hatch carnage. And some of the young 'uns. Four hatched...

I resisted assisting and he/ she hatched overnight. What a relief. Eight of the 13 have hatched, and three of the remaining five have pipped although one of those three also pipped wrong end. Thanks for the advice! They are cute aren't they?

We just went through the same. Got our first pip about 4 to 5 hours into day 21. Then they make you wait again! Four were hatched on day 21 and four hatched in the wee hours of the night last night. Three of the remaining five have pipped. Hang in there.
