We have two dogs, ~3 years old. They are pound dogs, but have some kind of pointer in them. We live on 10 acres of woods, and have about 1/2 acre of grass. The dogs have the run of the grass and about 2-3 acres around our house (invisible fence).
We got a couple outside cats about a year...

I found a thread on this very molting topic! https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=578987 - looks like I just get to wait it out!
Now that you mention it, there were a ton of feathers in their full enclosure area and in the open wire pen - feathers everywhere! I thought it might have been a result of not having the dirt/sand to take dirt baths to maintain their feathers - but perhaps it's the molting? How long does that...
I purchased 6 female quail approximately 4.5 weeks ago. The individual I bought them from said they were current egg layers, and I have no reason to doubt him. They have had plenty of food/water, are on a Purina Game Chow Growth and Plumage food. I recently put a cat litter box in their pen...
I recently added 6 quail to our homestead, and had a crazy thought after seeing all the droppings under the pen after just one day...so I thought I'd throw it out there and get some opinions.
My quail pen looks similar to this. I'm curious about doing some composting and having a worm bin...
I have been building a quail pen similar to this , and am curious how big I need to make the door/entrance for quail to get through? I'm looking for a height/width. My goal is to maximize protection/warmth in the wood enclosed area as we get cold winters in the midwest, so I want something...

Thank you model_A_tractor - helps give me some ideas!
My current plan is to procure some eggs and a couple dressed birds from a local qauil ad, and cook them up. If my wife and I like the taste, I plan on building a simple home for 3-4 cortunix. If we enjoy it, maybe we'll dive into...
I'm in the very early stages of research and decision making about raising quail. One thing I'm looking into is what type of enclosure to build. I'm a DIY kinda guy, so I'm handy and can build something from scratch.
I've been going through the sticky link that shows different pens, and have...
Perfect info gamebirdboy, much appreciated.
model_A_tractor - thank you. I'm in Central MO, using gamebirdboy's link and found local sellers for Purina - looks like another place to hit up for info/prices. I haven't decided what I'm going to focus on (meat vs egg vs both), so I just went for...
Two things:
1. Can either of you provide any options as to what you consider a product that should be used?
2. Do you have any constructive feedback in regards to the original topic for which the thread was started, whether or not my math is correct. I just needed a sanity check, seems...
Maybe we're not using the same vernacular. This is what they told me to use:
http://www.tractorsupply.com/livestock/livestock-feed/poultry-feed/dumor-reg-chick-starter-24-feed-50-lb--5078197
Could someone verify that my logic and math here are correct? The final amount of food cost for the last 6 weeks of a Japanese quail seems way too low...
Info:
quail were fed Starter Feed for first 10 weeks
1 pound = 453 grams
Assume quail eat 18 g per day (high side of average that I've...
