I am new to coturnix quail. I have new chicks (just hatched this AM) but also have four other eggs in the process of hatching. Do I wait and move all the chicks into the brooder at the same time or as they hatch?
What I guess I am trying to find out, is what is the longest time newborn...
So I started a post yesterday to ask about not hearing any pips or seen eggs move. Was somewhat concerned. But just before I hit 'post' by daughter screamed (yes she is a tad dramatic) that one of the eggs had a crack. Took egg out of the incubator and heard tapping. This morning coturnix...
I am currently incubating 12 coturnix eggs. I am new to quail so I was wondering if a brensea brooder will work for these chicks? I had it for my chicken chicks and loved it. For safety reasons I don't want to have a heat lamp.
Thanks
It is viable and should have hatched within a day of the other egg. I currently have the hen, chick and egg in a large dog crate with a nest box. She does return to the egg frequently with both the egg and chick underneath her. They are all inside the house too with regular temperature and...
I have a hen that has hatched one egg successfully and has one more to hatch (fertile). The chick is just over 24 hours old and I expect the other egg to hatch within 24-48 hours. Is that too long between hatchings for the hen and chicks to do well? Hen is not sitting on egg as much as she...
Put it in three baggies and cracked it. Not horribly rotten yet (i could have gotten away with neighbor's garbage) but only a partially developed embryo.
At least there are two more eggs under my hen.
Thanks. I tried to candle this egg, but no light goes through the egg. It is just a dark mass. Checked some non-fertile eggs and candling worked just fine.
They have been under the hen for 14 days. One other broke so I really understand the smell thing (it was horrific).
I have three eggs under my broody hen (not hers, from another chicken) and when i picked one of the eggs up it felt like something was moving inside (as I slowly turned the egg if felt like something moved from one side of the egg to the other).
Has this happened to anyone before? I couldn't...
I just got a bag of mealworms from the local pet store and was told by the cashier that mealworms if swallowed whole can eat there way out of a chicken. I have never heard of this and cannot see how this could even be possible. Has anyone ever heard of this?
I actually got these plans. At the time there was a 2-for-1 deal that included playhouse and dog house plans. Plans are pretty straight forward and easy to read. I have done only one of the plans and ended up changing a few things to meet my needs and building ability. If I remember the cost...
