Chipped beak and not looking well - what do I do?

I have a silkie who's missing some feathers around the face too, but seems to be fine, plus the feathers are coming back on her. The silkies stay away from the dominant bird, a SLW. The SLW use to pick on the faverolle, but seemed to stop when the faverolle started laying. They're all laying...

Chipped beak and not looking well - what do I do?

Ok, just looked in on her again. She's walking around and was pecking at the scratch I just threw around. It looked like she was able to get some, but can't really tell. She's still not closing her mouth/beak. Please help!

Chipped beak and not looking well - what do I do?

Hello! Yesterday I noticed my faverolle had the tip of her beak missing. It looks chipped. Also, the feathers that flank her "beard" are missing. When I checked in on her today, she was sitting in the coop panting, with her mouth open. More feathers seem to be missing. This time around her...

One of my two EEs has started to lay, will the other start soon?

Similar thing is happening to us too. We have a faverolle, a SLW, and 2 silkies. The faverolle laid for the first time at 25wks, which was 4 days ago. She laid again on the second day, but hasn't since. None of the others have started laying. Should I be worried?

    49 weeks - First egg!

Oh congrats! I'm on week 25 and no eggs yet. Any thoughts on why it took so long to lay?

Any one want to join me in waiting for eggs, posting and comparing notes?

Hi all! I have 4 chickens: 1 SLW, 1 faverolle, and 2 silkies. They're 25 weeks old today and no eggs. I've read some posts on this thread and realize that this is treading on the edge of normal. They seem happy and healthy and friendly enough. They also get along with each other. They get...

Food in the coop or in the run?

I keep feed in the coop. I don't want to deal with soggy feed when it rains. Water, veggies, treats are in the run.

When can I switch the feed?

Thank you! I forgot about the oyster shells, so thanks for that too!

When can I switch the feed?

My "chicks" are now 17 weeks. I think I have a week's worth of chick feed left. Do I need to wait for that 1st egg to switch to layer feed or can I switch now?

    Bugs in the Feed

I emptied the bag into a storage container outside. They give me the heeby-geebies. Yeah, I didn't think it was normal either. Lurking in BYC for sometime now, I don't recall other members mentioning buggy feed as normal. I have found another feed store that sells organic feed. I wish my...

    Bugs in the Feed

I'm a new chicken owner and have had my chicks for over a couple of months now. The 1st bag of feed I got was from TSC. When that ran out, I wanted to get organic feed, which required me to go somewhere else. The feed was stored at a warehouse and the clerk loaded it in my car for me. It sat...

    Droopy poopy

My 4 chicks are now 7 wks old. I have 2 LF and 2 bantams. At first I thought it was only one of the LFs that was dropping the very loose poop. She's at the bottom of the pecking order and gets picked on the most by the dominate one. I rationalized that it was from fear she was doing this...

Advice for Chicken coop with Greenhouse together

How about having the coop in the greenhouse? Then the run can be attached to the back.

    GMO free feeds?

From what I've been reading about GMO foods, you can't assume that if something is organic that it's also nonGMO. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
