STRANGE question: Stop poults from pecking---my teeth??

Oh yes! Lukily these two aren't like that with eyes, or I'd be in trouble, LOL. Of course, I will definitely teach the children proper handling before letting them hold them, and will supervise too. What I have been doing is actually letting them do it. Sounds counter intuitive I know, but...

Did it get too cold? :(

Thanks! Now that is is summer, luckily it is staying between 70-80. After a day without the heat lamp they are all acting normal! I switched to a cfl with a light diffuser so it's not TOO bright, but the brooder bin is bright enough for them to see. It works perfectly, I unplug it at sunset and...

STRANGE question: Stop poults from pecking---my teeth??

Hello all! I have quite the strange predicament. I recently hatched out three poults, keeping a pair to raise for educational purposes; planning on bringing them to several 'petting zoo' events in the coming year. I have them hand tamed (maybe too tame, as they cry constantly when they can't...

Did it get too cold? :(

Thank you, I am so glad they are okay! I think they were just sleepy and warming up in the light because they thought it was morning! They are perfectly fine today so far! :)

Did it get too cold? :(

((It's 4 am here so I apologize for any poor grammar)) My poults are a month old today and here is my situation: It got up to almost 90 in my room last night where I brood my babies, and nobody was happy about it! It was 75* in the rest of the house, so like an idiot I unplugged the heat lamp...

MAY 2016 "Land of the Free Because of the brave!" Hatch-a-Long Hosted by, Mike & Sally

Thanks, I will definitely keep everyone updated! I let them sit for 24 hours at room temperature and candled them before putting them in the 'bator. The air sacs on most of them looked okay (they remembered my 'tip' of storing them point down) and they were in a Styrofoam carton, but a couple...

MAY 2016 "Land of the Free Because of the brave!" Hatch-a-Long Hosted by, Mike & Sally

I just got a batch of guinea eggs from a friend into the 'bator, but I'm pretty sure they were refrigerated for a few days. We shall wait and see what develops.

*Controversial Topic Warning!* - How do I wash and sanitize hatching eggs?

Thank you for the reply! Luckily, I think they got the hint after my complaining last time---the eggs I got this batch were nice and clean. BUT they refrigerated them! I set them anyways and am just hoping for the best...

*Controversial Topic Warning!* - How do I wash and sanitize hatching eggs?

I know it is a controversial topic, however I have had some problems with omphalitis and blood rings in the past trying to incubate for my friend who pretty much demands I hatch their filthy eggs. I have already decided to wash and sterilize the eggs this time around, but need some advice on...

Need ideas for a 'fort knox' turkey pen

I have three mixed heritage breed poults indoors that are a week and three days old. These little guys are the new love of my life, but I can't keep them indoors forever. Unfortunately I am finding little on ideas for shelters. We are in a rural community with coyotes, foxes, and my neighbors...

    Poults with weird wings?

LOL good to know! I have a bin brooder with a lid in my room, it has a very secure chicken wire lid (cat-tested, poult-approved) I think I will add some perches in for them to sit on and keep themselves entertained. :) Thank you for the information, definitely a lot more different than chickens...

    Poults with weird wings?

My turkey poults (5 days old) are holding their wings weird, this one in particular is also lopsided. As you can see the primary feathers are sticking out at an angle on its right wing. On the other two, both wings are sticking out like this. What is going on? Is this normal? I have only ever...

    Help! Poults need more protein!!

Thank you, Hyelaw! I just bought 200 medium mealworms from my local pet store, the poor things seem to be afraid of them! I never heard of adding garlic to the feed, but after searching online and reading a couple of good articles, I think that it is a great idea! How much do you add for your...

    Help! Poults need more protein!!

Thank goodness! They are all a bit sick so I thought they could use the extra protein. After some extensive scouring of the area, I did find some ultrakibble for chicks (which is 28%) and some mealworms and grit that they seem to love. :)

    Help! Poults need more protein!!

I have read that turkey poults need 28% protein, though this MannaPro is only 24%. It is the only game bird feed that I can get around where I live. Should I supplement them and If so, what do you suggest I use? *~EDIT~* I just tried to feed egg yolk, both hard boiled and scrambled, they REFUSE...
