Thank you for your reply IMP. I can lock them up....just been dreading it since they free range and snow will be here soon so they won't be able to get anything from the free ranging till spring.
Does anyone else struggle with trying to be a good parent to their chickens?
Ok, so got my first flock this spring...9 RIRs, a roo, and two D' Uccle's. The female millie D Uccle passed away at 6 weeks and my Andrew has seemed lonely ever since. The light bulb went off in my head and of course bought some new babies to raise in hopes that Andrew could have some...
Sounds like Rosie likes em both...just likes to harass. My Justis does the same thing, he loves to harass some of the flock and not others, but come bed time he's out there making sure they get to bed ok...then has to say goodmorning to them also. Unless she's actually hurting one of the flock...
Sorry u missed this beautiful wonder:( I acidentally got to see my Sweetheart lay one of her first eggs and stood in awe of her for a few moments before realizing what I just witnessed.
As for the DH....I think it may just be a thing they do. I have only been married a year and noticed my DH...
In small quantites chicken poo is a great fertilizer...but be very careful because you can burn your plants with too much.
Is there anyway to build a solid box or maybe get a large garbage can to make compost in? With a lid the smell wouldn't be so bad.
Good luck and be careful!
My favorite thing?!....
The joy of watching all of my day old chicks grow and flourish and develop their own personalities, how they run to greet me...even if they just saw me 10 minutes ago:lol:, and definately the first crow; I don't have children and my pride just swelled when we heard that...
I agree with everyone here.
If you have concrete already, just seal and go! But definately put bedding down, you just can't get away without using bedding.
I use a ceramic tile in my brooder if the nights here get too cold, it absorbes the heat of the lamp and my babies love it...but I cover...
Since I wasn't sure I could give day old chicks treats I just popped my head in and talked to them for a few days until they were calm enough to reach in and pet them....I always talked until they saw me.
It seemed to work as now they will just hop into my hands or try to fly up to me:)
Glad I found this post.
Bought some mash at the feed store 3 days ago and when I opened the bag it just looks like mashed corn to me...but figured the lady there knew what she was talking about ( I am new to all of this). I have been feeding this to my flock am and pm (they free range all...
I just had to share this!
DH and I are in the office this morning having our cups o joe when we here the strangest noise....we look at each other and I finally peep up and ask what it sounded like to him. Through his giggling he responds "like someone getting run over"
So I go to the window...
Wow, thanks ddawn for the input!
I do give them feed in the morning and at night but have not added layer to their diet....plan on doing it now though!
I love this site:love
