    Mille de Fleur D’uccle - male/female

Super helpful. I have been hoping for a girl. We just had one hatch. Next time one of my girls goes broody, I’m going to have her sit on a bunch of D’uccle eggs. Such lovely little birds.

    Mille de Fleur D’uccle - male/female

Thanks for the replies. Yes, 5 1/2 weeks. Are you looking at the comb? Thinking cockerel too but the comb is pale pink - hoping hen.

    Mille de Fleur D’uccle - male/female

I was given a couple last winter. Hen hatched 1 chick on June 13th. Seems it is possible to sex chicks early. What do you think? Including pics of parents - they seem chunkier than the standard.

bumblefoot surgery - didn't work... next step?

I performed bumblefoot surgery on one of our hens two days ago. The scab was hard and I was able to cut it out. Cleaned and wrapped her foot - separated her from the flock in a clean cage. Think she must have had it for some time, although it didn't seem to be slowing her down. Did a full...

    tapeworm hymenolepis - treatment?

sorry for my abundance of questions... how do you ensure that you have the correct dosage with the paste? my vet said that i need to be very careful with dosage and recommended that I weigh each bird as overdosing can be dangerous.

    tapeworm hymenolepis - treatment?

Hi all. Talked to our vet. We're going with Equimax. She said do not eat the eggs for 8 weeks - no problemo. (She said this is a specific recommendation based on our flock, whatever that means.) I can only find the paste for about $10 and the liquid for horses for like $250. I would like to use...

    tapeworm hymenolepis - treatment?

Thank you eggcessive and coach723 so much for the help! Much appreciated!! I am admittedly a little grossed out as well. I'm going to need to figure out how to clean and make sure we get rid of all of the eggs. For the most part, I feel like our coop is pretty clean - I try to clean the bird...

    tapeworm hymenolepis - treatment?

I brought a fecal sample into the vet and our chickens have hymenlopis tapeworm. Our vet said she is having a hard time figuring out which dewormer will work on this particular type of tapeworm. Any know for certainty which one will kill the worms? Thanks!

Hen (comet) died of Ascites --- Questions about Peritonitis and Leukemia

Our 4-year old comet died two days ago with water belly/ascites. I took a sterile sample of the liquid in her abdomen (yellow and watery) and gave it to our wonderful vet friend to exam. She said that it had bacteria in it and was either egg peritonitis or leukemia. Her concern is that if it is...

    Bum leg

I think I'll put in a low roost. Good idea. This week, she has been huddling with our insane Golden Polish who seems to have no allegiances and sleeps all over the coop. I checked out her feet. No obvious injuries or bumble foot. I have rubber horse mats down on the floor of the coop. I put...

    Bum leg

Noticed one of our hens had a bad limp this summer. After about a week, she was walking on both legs with seemingly no issues. But clearly there is an issue as she will not jump on anything, roost included, that is more than a foot off the ground. Our nights are in the freezing temps and she is...

    Anyone raised a blind bird?

Has anyone raised and kept a blind bird as part of their flock? Any issues? We are raising a blind peachick along with another 3 peachicks and 1 chick. All get along fine. We are at week 5 and I'm wondering how we will eventually introduce him to our flock (1 rooster, 1 peacock and 8 hens). I'm...

    Fighting? Bloody hen

Good thoughts. We have 1 male and he about 3 years. He is a Buff Wyandotte and quite sweet - but he isn't super skilled in the art of seduction --- or rather, he isn't a gentleman. When he is in the mood, the girls scatter like flies! He will hold the girls down quite violently (clearly he is...

    Fighting? Bloody hen

Our birds are all different ages. The hen who had the injury is about a year +. Mating injury makes sense. I couldn't figure it out - seemed so odd --- and so very very bloody. Most of the other birds were also splattered with blood - it was hard figuring out who was injured and who wasn't...
