Hello
Sorry, have just looked on the forum. Not at home at the moment, Mum is very ill so I’m sitting with her. Macmillan Nurses are brilliant and the District Nurses Team and Hospice at home.
Hubby will have to look after my dogs and chickens.
Yes, I give them a few live mealworms in the afternoon and she didn’t even get off the nest......not even when I held a blooming worm in front of her nose...’er, beak!!
Dog crate is ready!!
Thanks to @Yorkshire Coop and @Chickencountryuk
I felt so sorry for her. She was so sweet and didn’t peck me, just puffed her feathers out a bit. I locked her out of the coop and run and when I came back from walking the dogs she was sitting under the nesting box looking really soulful :barnie...
Hi
As this is the UK thread I’ll post on here first.
I have a trio of Silkies, one rooster and two hens, all hatched in my kitchen last year (28.06.17) and one of the girls has gone broody.
I am a total newbie and don’t want any more chicks at the moment so am I doing the right thing just...
Put the lumpy feed in a plastic bag and bash it with a rolling pin or stand on it. That will turn it to crumb.
Do not worry, these little critters are tough. She knows where her water is now, she’ll get it.
And make sure she can’t drown in the water. I’ve seen people put large marbles in the water dish, or a brick. That’s if you haven’t got the proper water dish.
Good luck
:jumpyMy Silkie chicks had chick crumb and water available 24/7 and they grew like weeds. As each chick went into the brooder I dipped it’s beak very gently in the water to show it where it was as someone on the forum said that was important. Worked for me :highfive:
Your chick baby is...
Well, after quickly skimming through it (loads of information) I can see I’ve missed the deadline for immunisation as it should be done when they’re chicks :jumpy
SO, it’ll be the PREVENTATIVE approach for me :woot
I’ll go through it thoroughly tonight as there was lots of diet advice on the...
:thumbsupBrilliant.
My chicks hatched in the kitchen last year so I’ve been collecting eggs for about 2/3 weeks now and it NEVER gets old! That feeling when I lift the hatch and there’s a couple of eggs to take in!
Excited for you, Well Done!
:highfive:
Edited to add.....Love the fact that you...
Thank you for posting about this.
It made me feel quite sick when I read about the ‘de beaking’
Another forum member posted that poultry are one of the most abused animals on the planet. :hit
As a newbie, keeping chickens has been an eye opener.
Would a dremel be rather noisy? Crystal nail...
Thank you.
I know....got another two eggs today!! They’re working very hard. Maybe it’s because they’ve just started laying. It may tail off as the year progresses, I don’t want them worn out. A friend of my sons is waiting for a clutch of their eggs to hatch so I’ll be a Very Proud mom...
:pop
Watching with interest. Did I read somewhere that they could be stood in Epsom salts?
What is the treatment for scaly mites?
Newbie here.
Is there anything we can do to prevent this?
