Hello Sorry, have just looked on the forum. Not at home at the moment, Mum is very ill so I’m sitting with her. Macmillan Nurses are brilliant and the District Nurses Team and Hospice at home. Hubby will have to look after my dogs and chickens.

Thanks to @Yorkshire Coop and @Chickencountryuk I felt so sorry for her. She was so sweet and didn’t peck me, just puffed her feathers out a bit. I locked her out of the coop and run and when I came back from walking the dogs she was sitting under the nesting box looking really soulful :barnie...

    Silkie diet

Put the lumpy feed in a plastic bag and bash it with a rolling pin or stand on it. That will turn it to crumb. Do not worry, these little critters are tough. She knows where her water is now, she’ll get it.

    Silkie diet

And make sure she can’t drown in the water. I’ve seen people put large marbles in the water dish, or a brick. That’s if you haven’t got the proper water dish. Good luck

    Silkie diet

:jumpyMy Silkie chicks had chick crumb and water available 24/7 and they grew like weeds. As each chick went into the brooder I dipped it’s beak very gently in the water to show it where it was as someone on the forum said that was important. Worked for me :highfive: Your chick baby is...

Thank you for posting about this. It made me feel quite sick when I read about the ‘de beaking’ Another forum member posted that poultry are one of the most abused animals on the planet. :hit As a newbie, keeping chickens has been an eye opener. Would a dremel be rather noisy? Crystal nail...

    Turmeric and Organic kelp

Thank you @Trish1974 and @Peckadoodle this is so helpful :clap I’ve read about garlic. How do I add this to their diet? Do I chop it or mash it? I put a little apple cider vinegar in their water so do I also mix the garlic in that or put it in their feed? Thank you so much :thumbsup

    Worried about disease

I hope someone can help as I’m rather anxious about this. I’ve read on here that Mareks Disease can be prevalent and that chicks should be/may be immunised at a day old. I live in the uk and am hoping to get 3 Buff Orpingtons in the summer to add to my Silkie trio (2 hens and a rooster) We...
