I have a 3 week old chick that was sneezing last night - after some BackYard Chickens research I hoped it was feather/bedding dust bothering her. This morning she is sneezing constantly and her left eye is runny. I have no idea where to even start!
Some details:
-breed - French Black Copper...
update: I gave her some coconut oil - she stopped eating it after about 1 1/4 tsps. We sat in the sun while I massaged her crop for ten minutes. The crop was pretty hard but it definitely reduced in size by almost half after ten minutes! She loved the massage too.
Thank you. I gave her the treatment for doughy crop - before I saw your response - ginger, cinnamon, baking soda, lemon juice and water. she loved it but it hasn't seemed to do anything and the mass seems harder. can I go ahead with the coconut oil right away?
on of my girls had a large crop Wednesday morning. It was hard to the touch but I worked it for a while and it became a little softer and more pliable. a little water helped make it even softer. Thursday morning it was much smaller and softer. I was hoping it would have been gone this morning...
My girls made it through the winter - a very nasty bitter cold winter - with no ill effects. or so I thought...
I checked my flock this morning and one of my girl's combs was spotted black. It looks like tar. It feels dry to the touch. It hasn't been below freezing since Tuesday (today is Sunday...
there is one smaller pullet that seems to have taken the top spot - she pecks/plucks everyone else every chance she gets. I was sitting with them today and I observed the one chicken that has always been on the outside (last to eat, separated at night, etc) go to peck the one with the bloody...
I have five pullets 8 months old. I had a cockerel but I had to get rid of him a few weeks ago. Between the boredom of being cooped up through snowstorms and frigid cold and redefining the pecking order - two of my girls are getting picked on pretty badly.
I noticed two days ago the tiny patch...
So excited to find my first three eggs this morning! I have 5 pullets they are just five months old. I decided not to artificially light the coop so I didn't expect eggs until the spring.
Here's the problem. The eggs weren't in the nesting box. They were together in the corner. I was a little...
You are not the first person to tell me that! I was told he was an Araucana when I purchased him. I checked back with Agway and they assured me he was an Araucana. I don't think it matters one way or the other - i will identify him as an Easter Egger from now on. Thanks!!
