They are both 6 months old and have not started laying yet. I think the first one is either a black sexlink or copper maran. The second one, I have no idea.
It's been less than an hour and this is working pretty well. I still had to do a little of the 'discipline' you suggested and that was effective as well after a few taps. There is still some aggression but at a more normal level. Wonderful!
It does the eye pecking and leg pecking but it also jumps on them, holding them down and pecking away at their heads and necks in particular.. Definitely an attack to do harm and I have to physically separate them. This chick bites hard and won't let go.. It was doing the same thing to my...
I just had some eggs hatch in the incubator 5 days ago and one of the chicks is super aggressive with the others. It attacks them constantly, unprovoked. I lost two chicks and suspect it was because of this wee firecracker. The breed is RIR. This is definitely not the normal pecking order...
Well, I didn't know it was a guinea egg. I was collecting eggs to put in the incubator, egg turner and found some on the ground outside. I thought it was unusual but put them in the incubator with the others. My chickens and rooster are rhode island reds but two black chicks hatched, only one...
We picked up 6 RIR chicks back in June and, much to our delight, one of them is a rooster. We guessed from the start he was a cockeral due to his confidence, always coming to check things out first, make sure everything was okay, etc. He was also slightly protective of the others. Well, here...
I have a young Rhode Island Red hen just starting to lay eggs. We have 11 other hens of varying ages and 2 roosters in our flock. We also have 6 chicks and 5 Guinea fowl. All get along fine, everyone is happy and healthy. (not sure if all that is important information but included it just in...
Such a great song, inspires an emotional reaction for sure. Funny thing about it, it was written by an Irishman with Scottish heritage but was written about Scotland. It is often mistaken for an Irish song as a result! Either way though, it would be one of my favorite songs ever.
Thanks to you both for the greeting! As for the username, my heritage is Scottish and my husband is from Falkirk, Scotland so needless to say, it's a big part of my life! I suppose my favorite Scottish song (if I had to pick one) is Wild mountain thyme (also known as Will ye go lassie go).
Hi everyone! Been a reader for awhile now and finally decided to join up. My husband and I have a small farm in Northeast Oklahoma. We started out with some Rhode Island Red hens and rooster as well as a few Buff Orpingtons but have just added some Plymouth Barred Rock chicks and one handsome...
Yes he was separated on one side by the fence you see here. Everything we have read, he and the other need to see each other to get used to one another so this is how we have integrated new chickens with great success. We treated all the chickens for the respiratory infection, just in case. I...
