The nest box and egg area are on a ramp about 17* incline. I'm honestly surprised she's able to pull any up and under her at all. I'll try and prop something under the back end to raise it a smidge more and will reach out to Hengear to see if they have ideas.
Thanks for the info about normal...
I don't really know how to word the post subject other than that, but here's the basics:
I'm using a Hengear rollaway nest box
I have a pullet, my head girl, who I think likes to try and collect eggs while she sits and gets ready to lay her own.
She is sticking her head through the rollaway...
I just have 1 of my 11 not laying yet, a wyandotte. Her comb has gotten pretty big so I think she'll get there soon, but I'm already drowning in eggs now that I have 10 layers lol.
I know that we're at a weird time with autumn daylight hours, but should the girls that do start laying regulate or could they be one and done until spring? I haven't seen another egg from Mary yet- she hasn't even gone in the nesting box.
Honestly, I had no real signs from her leading up to the egg song screaming today. She doesn't squat for me, she had only been in the nesting box two other times in the past month (I can tell from footprints in the dust), and she only sang the egg song one other day. I'm home all day so it's...
Mary just laid her first egg! She's 19 weeks. My husband heard her screaming the egg song from inside the coop so I went out to check. I found her scratching around in the nest box, so I put the fake eggs back in and went back inside. Heard her again, but this time she was outside the coop in...
Mary's comb is now quite large and flopping over. I saw some feetsie prints in the dust in the nest box so I know someone is checking it out, but not sure who! She's 19 weeks old tomorrow.
Welcome! I just got my own first flock of birbs as well and converted a resin shed for my coop. I can't recommend poop trays of PDZ under the roosts enough, though everyone has what works for them. For me it's just "scooping the chikky litter" lol! This place will be a wealth of info for you and...
Leg size doesn't really correlate to gender. I have a Barred Rock pullet and an Easter Egger pullet that both had/have monster dinosaur legs right out of the gate, but they're definitely girls. :)
I wish America was more bike friendly/accessible. My city has some bike lanes, but they're not protected, and people try to intimidate cyclists by driving right next to us (and it works, I'm terrified!)
I make the best dang carrot cake, and I think the reason it's so good is because I do an orange glaze instead of cream cheese frosting. My mom developed severe lactose intolerance a few years ago so I had to figure out a way to make her favorite dessert safe for her, and a simple glaze with...
