    Hi, I'm not sure there is a solution other than either keeping your chickens in the coop or putting up a fence. Perhaps a cheap chicken wire and garden cane fence would do the job thought? Who did the fence belong to that you took down? Perhaps you could both contribute towards a fence?

    Thanks all. I love that you can get so much advice on here. I don't think I can extend the run as for it to be safe at night it would have to have a roof, which is probably more work than I can do in the next two weeks before I go on holiday. (Given I'm recovering from gastroenteritis as well)...

    I have 2 four week old chicks who are currently living inside with about an hour in a run on the grass a day allowing them to meet my older hen.     Thanks, I havnt really got anywhere enclosed enough that I can sit in and they can run around me but although they still run squawking when I try to pick them up they calm down a lot quicker if I sit down and hold them...I think we are getting there slowly.
