Tips for stopping chicks dirtying water.

Thanks. The little devils have started to fly up and perch on the sides of the box: They're cream crested legbars.

    Healthy rooster sudden death.

Hi, I found my six month old rooster on the chicken coop floor last week, alive with head movement and eyes open although completely lame in the legs/lowerbody. A few hours later he was dead. Prior to this he was a healthy young man, had just began to crow in the morning and enjoyed chasing...

Tips for stopping chicks dirtying water.

Does anybody have any good tips for keeping the water cleaner in the brooder? My 3 week olds kick up sawdust minutes after me laying out fresh water.

Fox took my rooster :-( Will my hens still be laying eggs fertilized by him?

We had a day time visit from Mr Fox on Saturday. He took my rooster and a hen while they were out free ranging. I would like to know the chances of the eggs that are being laid now by my 2 remaining hens still being fertile. It would be nice to incubate them and get son out of my lost soldier...

It's gonna be 5 degrees F this week will my flock be ok?

Hey folks, I know this has probably been asked a million times but it's my first season keeping hens and the weather forecast this week predicts a drop to 5 degrees F. Electrical heating is not an option so will they be ok from their own heat? I have 4 hens and a rooster all in a small coop...

What in the world is my chicken doing

I think it also helps in keeping their beaks trim. Almost like we file our nails.

Just introduced 2 new birds to my small flock. Can I let them free range with the others?

Thanks. I will keep them in for a week to be sure.

Buzzard took one of my free range hens. What should I do?

Hey guys, I just want to add that my solution has been to build a run for my hens and only let them free range when someone is at home. Buzzards (the common European kind) get used to routines and know when to strike so I believe that releasing them on a more irregular basis also helps.

Just introduced 2 new birds to my small flock. Can I let them free range with the others?

I only had a rooster and 2 hens and have just introduced 2 more hens, and was wondering if they will stick with the others when I let them out? Thanks.

Buzzard took one of my free range hens. What should I do?

I am pretty certain is was a buzzard (European buzzard): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common_Buzzard as I have seen them hanging around since the attack, probably looking for the others. I found the hen two feet from a pile of its feathers, missing most of its breast down to the insides. It...

Buzzard took one of my free range hens. What should I do?

Sorry, should have said that I am in Europe. I believe our buzzard is known as a hawk to you guys over the water.

Buzzard took one of my free range hens. What should I do?

Hey guys, This is my first post as I am new to keeping hens and already having predator problems. I've had my 3 hens, one cockerel for only 6 weeks and decided to free range them as the coop is small, and we live next to some nice woodland with no traffic nor neighbours. Chicken paradise, or...
