Morning after their 1st night sleep in the new condo & so very content! These are our oldest girls @ 2 1/2 months. (Above): Tulip like all the girls, always more comfortable roosting on daddy's hand than anywhere else. Someone lock me in the coop so I don't have to go to work! Had I been sitting...

Older Chicks with Marek's... please help?

We now have a flock 8 (mixed assortment of breeds). We have a few girls that were standards and so came vaccinated for Marek's. We also have a few bantams that were not vaccinated before we got them. We've had 2 girls come down with Marek's within the last month (both were silkies). After...

    What is Save a chick?

Thanks, yinepu! All my chicks have been doing super! After the first batch, I learned the difference between and sleepy chick and one that is too lethargic. We have to feed the boiled egg to our finches at times, so I'm familiar with that. I gave all the second batch of babies Sav-A-Chick &...

Help! My 9 year old son wants to do 4H Chickens for next year's fair.

Go for it! He'll never have any clue of the politics. My 3 much younger cousins (all girls) had 4H pigs and I have been soo jealous I didn't have something like that when I was a kid. I think they learned so much about life, animals and reality in all the best ways.

Chickens Laying in YOUR HAND!!!!! (Contest) ;)

Omg, I had no idea they'd do that! I guess it's just how comfortable they feel around you.. kinda like animals who feel comforatble enough to clean themselves while on you. A little gross, but I can't wait!

The owner of the feed store says that....

better safe than sorry... you should without eating to make sure they all have a proper diet. Jk.. but, everyone is right about too much calcium. Be careful in trying to feed everyone from one bag. It's worth it in the long run.. healthier chicks grow up to make healthier eggs! :]

    Chicken Coop stability issues

Just finished our new coop this yesterday...phewwwww! Anyway, if you're using hardward cloth, once it's applied the coop should definitely become more stable. Try to keep the hardware cloth in as big of sheets as possible to work with. the more corners you take with a single sheet, the more...

    Chicks wont roost!

Dearest JakRat, We now have girls around 3 1/2 months old as well as some who are just at 4 weeks. Point is, if you make the roost accessible, they'll roost. The very 1st roost we made for the girls (a week after they were born) was only 7 or 8" off the ground... once it was dug down into the...

    What is Save a chick?

Has anyone had better luck with boiled eggs and/or yogart (rather than Sav-A-Chick)? We have a few types of Finches as well as our chickens and the Zebra Finches currently have 3 babies in their nest. Once the babies hatched we had to start mixing boiled egg with a chick vitamin mix for the mom...
