I want to say thank you very much to all who have replied! I'm not positive they're getting better, but everyone's been so helpful and nice! Thanks again! I'll try to keep updated.
The box they were in on the way home was a little box with windows on either side stuffed with newspaper.
They've stopped freaking out now and are laying down in a big huddle in the corner, now.
I checked on them this morning and there was NO change. They still just...layed there. I tried to water them and they refused it--same with food. But suddenly something strange happened. I set one down and it blinked for a second and started peeping loudly, It got up and began to ran into their...
A small farm that we'd gotten newborn chicks before from that were healthy, but as I said, these were a little dirty. Also, I think I notice some feathers missing off of one of the baby's shoulders.
They're under a 100 watt bulb and won't eat at all. They just sort of...stare and lay down. Even when I stand them up on their feet they slowly lay down again. They've been like this for a while now. Could they be in shock?
Oh the bedding was a petsafe recycled newspaper bedding that'd I'd...
They looked a little dirty when we bought them but looked fine enough to survive the hour long home trip in a warm padded box. As soon as we got them home and into their new living area, we noticed they were completely still and lethargic--they haven't moved in twenty minutes!
They look like...
I was wondering if anyone's had any success in giving vitamins like gingko biloba to their fowl to improve brain function just a bit. I plan on trying it as a little experiment, I just need to make sure it won't kill my cute little babies.
Thoughts?
Also, does anyone else use any homemade...
We had a dog get after our chickens today. One chicken was injured and two were missing. The two that had disappeared were the best of friends and had always been together. We found one after about an hour of searching, perfectly fine and hiding. Since then about another hour or two has gone by...
Aw shucks. MaryJane could be a boy? I've had nothing but bad luck with roosters. They're always sweet right up until I turn my back. Oooh I hope she's just gender-confused!
Any ideas on what their colorations are called?
Thank you for your help so far!
I saw two frizzles that were labled as hens at the feedstore that I couldn't pass up. I'm the proudest mama ever, they're super sweet and extremely adorable--and their fluffy butts are to die for!
I'm new to chickens but I think they're bantam cochins. I've no idea what to call their colorings...
D: Sorry I'm just now able to post, computer's been down.
I've got pictures of that confused chicken, but beware: They were taken on a cellphone and have odd quality.
Here's Ms Fifi herself. She tried to spur me (somehow) when I went in for a close up so I had to pick her up to get this...
Fifi my buff polish hen has always been a joy to watch. She's always been a dominant bird and likes to set the rules around the coop. She's so dominant, in fact, that I was positive she was a HE until she layed an egg.
I've seen her mount the other, extremely-confused chickens. Nothing...
Thank you so much everyone! When I get brave enough, I'll try Rooster Red's method of holding him. He's a big guy for a polish roo. Also, he'll just randomly attack me for no reason. It started however, when I got my first eggs out of the chicken coop. Maybe he thinks he's eliminating the egg thief!
