    Duck house pic

My new duck house is attached to the back of the chicken coop, and there is also an 8' x 16' pen attached for the hens. The duck house is 4' x 6' for 3 ducks for their night pen only. I have 2-3" of sand on the floor and a half whiskey barrel for an egg box.

    Duck and Chicken Run

I keep 6 hens and 3 ducks. No males. They free range together well, but I house them at night separately. The ducks are very wet and don't sleep at night. The hens roost high and lay eggs in nest boxes, and the Ducks sleep and lay eggs on the ground. I have a 3-4"layer of sand down in the duck...

    Dominique Thread!

I'm fairly certain that's a "she". I have two that are a week old and they look the same. I also have two three year old Dominique hens. The pullets have a yellow spot on their heads with no black within that spot. They have a little black on their beaks and legs. The Roos have yellow beaks...

What do I need to know before buying Ducks?

You need to get them as young babies and handle them regularly.

    Dominiques anyone?

I have to forewarn you. When I got Dominiques I became vegetarian. These birds are so affectionate and loveable, you'll never want a dog again.

    Pekin Duck Club!

These are my three Pekins. The little one, Lucy, was rescued from serious neglect. She is a year and a half old , and half the size of my 9 month old ducks. When I saw her, she ran across pen which was about 6" deep of rancid much and she threw herself on my chest and wrapped her beak around my...

What do I need to know before buying Ducks?

I have three Pekin ducks and 6 hens. They all have to be kept in a predator proof place at night. The hens naturally go to roost, but the ducks don't. The ducks are easily "herdable" and go to bed with a treat. Ducks do not sleep at night like hens, so I separate the hens and ducks in their...

    Hen CONTEST!!!

This is my snuggly lap hen, Jezebel. She's a two year old Dominique. My Dominiques are all super friendly and want to be held endlessly. I just love this breed.

My ducks cant figure out the pool

I put a paver in the pool and paver steps up to the pool. It seems to be better than a ramp.

Anyone have just dirt in duck run/pen?

I just put a 3-4" layer of sand in the duck/ chicken pen that they stay in at night. It is fabulous! I clean it every morning with a kitty litter scoop and it is clean in 5 mins. It stays dry, and completely odor free. It works great for both types of birds.

    Faverolles or Sultans

I have two Dominiques, one Delaware and two Favorolles. I personally would not get Favorolles again. They are extremely noisy and make a sound almost like a peacock. They are also quite messy because of the dense feathering in their rear ends. Mine are quite skittish compared to the other three...

    Attached run question

I surrounded the outside of my run with pavers so nothing can dig in. The girls free range in the day and are shut in at night. I tried to enclose a photo, but I can't figure out how.

    Dominique Thread!

My Doms are the friendliest of my hens and are pets. I tell them apart by the different spots or marks on their legs. They also have very different personalities so it's easy to tell once they are in your lap. They also have different sounds. I have one Dom who wants to be held and cuddled all...
