They have very shiny feathers in the sunlight.
I had a 4 egg day = 2 days in a row!
They are all laying now and gave away my first dozen to my daughter on Friday.
Saturday only brown eggs but its getting colder; its suppose to be 26 degrees tonight
and I wonder if we should put the heat lamp...
They aren't pure black they have a beautiful green sheen in the sunlight, almost like a black birds.
I will call the feedstore this week, or just stop by, and show them pictures.
Probably they won't know for sure, but at least they might be able to find out from the breeder, maybe its a mix of...
I would agree to Mincoras but everything I read about them doesn't seem to apply to my birds.
They are so friendly and sweet
(Mincoras are supposed to be broody)
Mincoras aren't supposed to take well to cold weather and we have been having 27 degree nights and that isn't stopping them from...
Wow really? they said Australorps at the feed store and Barred Rock which we knew.
I got 2 of each and I caught the Australorp in the nesting box where I found the white egg(thought my husband says it has a pink tint?)
They are really good gentle birds.. the black ones let me pick them up and...
Okay we got 2 day old chicks at the local feed store in July
I didn't think they would start laying this soon but I have gotten 12 eggs in the past 10 days.
None of the chickens are telling me who is laying.. but I am not sure if we got any roosteres either!
They are pretty camera shy but here...
Its December 17, 2012 and SOME laid an egg!!
We have 2 Black Australorps and 2 Barred.. and poof there it was this morning..
no idea who did it .. nobody is talking!
Doesn't one type lay brown eggs? this one looks white.. its a medium sized.. I was hoping someone would
do this before January.. I...
So what state are you that you have coyotes'?
If a coyote could rip through all that metal I don't think wood would have stopped her either
Our door is wood with a lock but any determined large animal can break through if you are in the country or near a forrested area.
We never have storms...
I live in the city , we do have turkey vultures that fly overhead, and even real wild turkeys have landed in the yard.
We have the normal dogs and just a few cats one or two but they both live indoors at night..
Our chickens are in an enclosed, chicken tractor) top, bottom and sides are...
I will ask a stupid question too..
do the rooster have a curved nail on the back of their leg above their normal toes?
One of my Australorps does and one does not and they are only maybe 6-8 weeks old
The feed store will take the rooster because our town doesn't allow them, only 3 hens.
Carol
One of my Barred Hens - We got them first part of July, a month ..maybe 6 weeks?
This one is bizzare I think one of the Australorps is in mid-jump here
I can just see that one hen in the back going you aren't taking OUR picture
I wish I could hold them but the one I did get to hold felt very...
Our 'chicsks' wait until 8pm . ..dusk.. open at 7am and out until 8pm..
that seems to be there routine right now..
If you tried to coax.. well my husband says its like 'herding cats' near impossible until they want to go in the coop.
But I found a cat near the coop yesterday and our dog...
'Chicks Only - NO Boys Allowed -
Chicken Tractor'
Here is our first coop, my husband felt the chicken tractor was the best way to keep the chickens happy
and our yard will be 'turned over' a little bit at a time.
He used a basic coop design and we saw a few at the feedstore.
He put...
