We have 6 hens, we lost 2 to a predator about 7-8 weeks ago. Since we lost those two the remaining 6 have molted and not laid a single egg. We got them in July 2011, so they are over 2 years old. Is it normal for them to completely stop laying in the winter? And would a light help?
I live in Washington state where it well rains ALL the time. My run is all mud! My husband wants to put down gravel but I read chickens don't like stepping on gravel. I put some shavings down today. Not sure if it will do any good.

I'm not worried about health. All of our hens came from the same very reputable farm. Tomorrow will be one week. They are still picking on the older hen in the morning in the coop before they are let out :(
We had 5 hens and added 1 more hens and 2 pullets. The established flock seems to still be picking on the new hen! It has been 5 days. How long will they keep picking on her?
We only have 1/3 of an acre and my daughter lets them out of the ru. The second she goes outside! I fenced my garden so they can't get in it. And they have their wings clipped too. Everynight they put themselves to bed still
