Pustules? on my hen's face - help?

Thank you! She still seems to be eating and drinking. I'll put iodine on those pustules and see if it helps. How would I know if there is infection inside the pustules? Would an oral abx help at all?

Pustules? on my hen's face - help?

My GL Wyandotte has these pustule-like bumps on her face. Can anyone ID and suggest treatment?

Coop design: dirt or raised floor?

4 the Birds, Your pictures are so helpful! We *usually* don't have too many super-cold winter nights, but this last winter was pretty cold for Georgia. I think we dropped below 0F a few times. Do you have a picture of the wood panels you add in the winter? I'm assuming you mean plywood...

Coop design: dirt or raised floor?

We have heavy clay here, too, and it's been very wet. The only thing that concerns me is that it wouldn't really be easy to get a compacter into the covered coop area. Will it compact over time, though?

Coop design: dirt or raised floor?

Hmmm..okay, that's good to know. Crusher, I think, is crushed up rock - smaller than pea gravel? What kind of dirt did you use - just simple fill dirt?

Coop design: dirt or raised floor?

Thank you, Judy! That link is awesome! Drainage might be an issue, but perhaps I could build up the floor a bit with some crusher run? I think I will stick with my nearly 8x8 coop for colder winter days, and just have an opening to an open-air, secure coop like so many on that hot weather...

Coop design: dirt or raised floor?

I need to expand my coop and I'm trying to decide between adding more space to (expanding) the raised-floor coop, or just creating a sort of super-safe covered portion of their run. We have about 20 chickens (and 7 babies who will be joining them eventually) in a 7.5'x7.5' coop. The coop is...

    "Gurgling" chickens and treatment

A few days ago, our only roo started sounding "gurgly" when breathing. He was acting and eating fine, but someone told me to treat him with Duramycin. After a few of our hens also started making the noise, I was advised to get Tylan 50. Since I have 20 chickens, I looked locally for the oral...

Suggestions for a large, easy-to-build, inexpensive coop?

We have only two acres, and coops can't be within 75' of the property line. I don't know if that applies to moveable coops, though. However, since our free range for about half the day, I don't know that I'd need it to be moveable, though I can see the appeal. :)

Suggestions for a large, easy-to-build, inexpensive coop?

Thanks, Laurel! I am really intrigued by this because I think it could be very versatile. In the summer, the humidity is terrible and I like the idea of building a large structure that could potentially have more ventilation during the summer but still provide protection from the rain. I'm...

Suggestions for a large, easy-to-build, inexpensive coop?

Thanks for all these suggestions and comments. Penny, I'm so impressed with your coop! I do have a couple more questions about the hoop coops - are they acceptable for colder weather? I know I'm in Georgia, but we've had a very cold (for Georgia, anyway) winter, so I'm wondering if these hoop...

Suggestions for a large, easy-to-build, inexpensive coop?

I don't think I'm understanding, exactly - I think I need to find an image to help. I'm wondering if that'd be predator-safe, though. I'm in GA, and although I have dogs, they are not always outside especially during weather extremes. Interesting, though - I definitely need to do some...

Suggestions for a large, easy-to-build, inexpensive coop?

We currently have a coop that's just under 8' x 8', with 23 chickens in there (and seven babies in the brooder). It's definitely too small already. They have a 30x40 run, and are let out to free range after around noon each day. I want to build a much larger coop that will comfortably house...

    Wry neck or broken neck?

Hmmm. Thanks, Michael. I can pick up some poultry nutri drench tomorrow. They're getting Countryside Organic feed, which is currently stored in my house - we carry the feed out every day to them because I don't want to keep an entire bag in the coop. We go through a bag about every 2 weeks...

    Wry neck or broken neck?

Hi folks, I've got a 2.5 month old FBCM cockerel whose head is hanging down to the ground. He can lift it a bit, and he can stay upright and even turn around, but he can't lift his head enough to drink water. He can eat - it's messy but he can do it. It looks like his neck is broken moreso...
