Thanx everyone...I got my start here when I won some eggs in some sort of a BYC contest..they were Phoenix and Buff O's. My first hatch, Someday I will pick it up again...with a fresh start.
Well the Rat got my last two birds. I don't really get to attached to my birds but for some reason I got attached, I guess because they were my oddball bunch and so friendly. Anyway I am and was angry, left the carcass in hen house in hopes attracting the rat back, also left a large package of...
I quit with chickens earlier this year but through a string of events I up until last week had 5 fancies 1 Frizzed Cochin and 4 polish Juveniles. All have been happy healthy and growing great. Earlier last week I found two in hen house dead, one had an injury on neck and the other had had its...
Thanx, for the replies, i have never had a problem with predators digging in, all my old pens have wire out about 3 ft on the ground, now covered in grass and all pens had tops...my only problem is SNAKES. If I am gonna keep some chickens Its go to be snake proof.
OK I am not new to chickens, probably been 12 years since I started. My story...the first of the year I got rid of all my birds due to increased predators, limited free ranging time and peens that needed repair and expanding. I had intentions of tearing all 3 peens and coops down. Flash...
LOL......the first silkies i ever had were given to me as chicks by a dear friend who hatched them. There were 4, 3 white and one black. All turned out to be roosters, and the 3 whites grew as large as my ful size hens RIR. My friend could not get over how large they had gotten, their parents...

Thats what I did, Mine is about 2 feet out from the pens, over the years it has been "absorbed" by the grass, so it is real easy to mow over. I have never had anything dig into one my pens, but there have been numerous attempts all stopped by the wire under the grass.
Mix DE in their feed and their litter, it will really help with flies. You can also use it on fire ant mounds. I prefer using boiling water on the FA mounds.
OK, finally convinced myself I can butcher a bird, getting a few meat chickens to start and from there want to move to turkeys. I like the size and everything I read about the midget whites...question is predator protection....what is required for turkeys, particularly MWs? I have about an...
