    Cornish cross crowing

I have never heard anyone mention Cornish Cross roosters crowing... ever. But, this morning one of ours, 6 wks old, was doing his best to get a crow out, three different times. Yes, they were pitiful, but they were crows! Our meat birds also, scratch for food, roost on short roosts and run...

    Flies while processing chickens

Do those of you who process your chickens during the summer months have a problem with flies while processing and if so, what do you do about them. We normally don't have any flies around, but, once in a while we'll see a few. We are going to be processing a 6 old hens in a couple of weeks and...

    Houdini Raccoon

Wahoo!!! Yesterday the trap was set with everything suggested. The plate was painted with peanut butter, a partially opened can of tuna was set in the back of the trap, a chicken leg (from grocery store) was tie wrapped to the back of the trap and just to top off the "raccoon smorgasbord" I...

    Houdini Raccoon

Thanks for the suggestions, I just may put a can of tuna in the back of the trap and then paint the metal plate with peanut butter. Surely!! That should catch him! I'll post tomorrow what happens tonight!

I'm at my wits end. A raccoon has been harrassing my hens. We've baited a Have-a-Heart trap with marshmallows 6 nights in a row. Each time he takes the bait without setting the trap ( the trap has been used with success before). When tested, the trap sets very easily. Last night I strung...

    Raccoon Help Please

Hands down.... marshmallows! Cat food and tuna fish can smell horrible to us humans after a day or two, but the marshmallows smell good to the critters and people! Plus, the raccoons love them!

Getting electric fence ground rod out?

To protect our chickens (tons of raccoons and possums) we installed a Premier1 poultry electric netting. Everything is working great and the chickens are happy little campers. I chose this type of fencing so we could move the chickens often. The only problem is trying to get the ground rod...

    New coop finished-pics

My granddaughter's little black cochin was being picked by the other hens, so we decided to build her a tractor/coop of her own. It was finished today, about 6 days too late... a racoon killed the hen last Saturday, :o( .....we don't like racoons around here!!!.... But at least, the other...
