Oh, I'm sorry. No, she is our free range chicken. She was out all day when I noticed her just laying in the garden, looking like she was ready to die. I don't even know how to figure out what could be wrong. Thanks for your concern.
It started about a week ago, when I found our free range chicken just sleeping in the garden, looking so lethargic I thought she'd die any minute. Perked up a bit and now is worse. Won't eat. Takes a little of water from a dropper. I have isolated her, since she is beginning to be pecked at...
Sorry to be just getting back to you,Whitti. Thank you for the suggestion to isolate her from the bigger guys. I took the little lady and put her back in the brooder with her own feeder and water. I gave her some vitamin supplements in a molasses mixture, and put her on the antibiotic feed she...
I have 6 5-week old RI Reds. They are now with the bigger guys, 3 white leghorns, who are free-range most of the time, and out of their way. I have noticed that one Red is very docile, smaller and sweet in comparison to the other 4, definitely less in weight. Nothing seems wrong. She does eat...
My Rock Cornish are now two months old and are huge! I have tried to limit food (none at night), but they just keep growing. I am fortunate to have a kind neighbor who teaches agriculture at the high school. He will take them today or tomorrow. He promised to be kind to the end. I will be glad...
Another thought. If we ate less meat, we wouldn't need to engineer birds like the Cornish Rock. Also, we could implement better practices for life and slaughter. Prices would go up, but we could eat less.
Cassie,
I am not against the slaughtering of animals for food, but it is the inhumane practices that often accompany it. If I buy meet I eat (once a year at Thanksgiving), I spend more (alot more) for a certified human turkey. I will give my 3 Rock Cornish to a nearby farmer who practices...
I'm ready to cry. My husband bought me 6 chicks from TSC for Easter. I was so happy. I've really taken great care of them and my husband just built a nice coop and fenced in yard. 3 are Cornish Rock and after being told what to expect (their hugeness and used for meat), I held on to the hope...
