My chicks are 5 weeks old. They haven't made it outside to the coop yet (still need the gate on the run and a door cut in the coop). They currently reside in the dog crate in the basement.
Are they old enough that I can turn their light off?
My hatch was officially over on Tuesday. 15 hatched (2 with "bum legs" - one died last night). 3 died while zipping. And six never pipped.
I took some pictures and I'll have to post them tonight.
I'm done for the year. I have a total of 23 chickens now....and I promised my neighbors...
I had a chick hatch last night that was not typical. It was almost like it hatched back first. It laid in the same place all last night and today. When I took all the chicks out today and put them in the brooder, I got a better look at it. One leg goes out behind it. and it's just laying...
It's funny because my temperature was pretty low this morning, I think like 92-ish. But I was leaving and you know how those LGs spike, so I left it alone. Maybe I made a good move in doing so?
Having all these chicks in the incubator running around is just ridiculous! They kept me up all...
Bec,
What was the reason they were panting? Did you ever figure that out?
I've never heard of that so I am curious. And I'm at work, an hour from home, sure that my chicks are panting right now because I'm not there to help them. Yes....I'm slightly crazy. HAHAHA
LOL I remember when I first saw DH and sat there wondering what the heck it meant
I just read this as ... when i first saw {Dear Husband} and sat there wondering what the heck it meant.....I thought you were reminising about meeting your husband. LOL I guess once you get used to it, they...
I love the pictures everyone!!!! Congrats!
And lilblessings, I told ya!
My fiance called me this morning on my way to work to let me know that #15 (!!!!) had just hatched and there was another hatching also. My chicks are still all in the incubator. I've promised myself that I'm keeping...
Thank you! Thank you! I've done soooo good! I've only been temped to open the bator once since Thursday.
I've been watching chicks hatch since 1 am this morning and I think maybe the stress is starting to get to me.
It's getting C*R*A*Z*Y in there!!!!!
I have chicks hatching like crazy in my incubator - have 10 already out and a few more in the process. My humidity is at 75% and the windows are all steamed up with water droplets. Both vent holes are open. I'm using an LG stillair.
Is it okay? Do I just leave it alone? Should I quickly...
I woke up at 1 am to noise in the incubator. When I clicked on my flashlight, I found a newly hatched chick! Then I stayed awake for an hour to watch chick #2 hatch.
I have another zipping, but I'm not seeing any movement so I don't know what's up that that one.
And S*E*V*E*N more pips...
Wow! Look at all those babies! Congrats to each of you!
I now have three pips. Luckily, I've been busy today or I'd be losing my mind.
Panting chicks? Is that a sign of distress? I have no idea, but maybe your humidity is too high and they are having a hard time breathing? I really...
ATTENTION ALL HATCHERS!
BACK AWAY FROM THE INCUBATORS. (Bec? Don't make me drive 13 hours again!) (unless you have crab cakes........ )
DO NOT MESS WITH KNOBS, DIALS OR OPEN THE INCUBATOR AFTER DAY 18.
Thanks I needed that!
