does seem weird, is it an early hatcher?
I had 2 bantams hatch early that were slimy, they still have egg goo stuck on them, wonder if its something like that?
I now have three pips. Luckily, I've been busy today or I'd be losing my mind.
Panting chicks? Is that a sign of distress? I have no idea, but maybe your humidity is too high and they are having a hard time breathing? I really don't know. Hopefully someone else can help you out.
I just got some advice from my good friend ranchhand and Opa, they advised that I take them out quickly and spritz when i open the bator. So I have all 10 out and everything is good in the bator.
It seems so quiet in here now
Their brooder is in a different room. BUT I did take pics!! Let me get them loaded!
Well I really opened up the foamy egg and it looks like the baby just quit
So that's a bummer....But I do have 2 pips in there and can hear peeping....lots of peeping!!
Here are some new pics!! I can't wait to see everyone's pics!!! This has been an exciting journey and I am so happy to have gotten to share it with all of you!! You all are the best hatching buddies ever!!
Several have asked about hatching in cartons, and I have to say it's a crapshoot as to which method is really "better" - I think it's more a question of what works for you in your setup.
I just cut some cartons for Bec this morning to ship with her eggs so I took a pic of how I do them. I use a really sharp, big pocket knife and really carve a lot away. I like to separate them into sixpacks and spread them out as space allows.
These are pasteboard- you really don't want it to get wet, so be sure the water can't get near them.
Yeppers, as soon as Wes-man gathers them all up...lol! It only fill maybe a quarter inch for some reason, that one never fills very high. Only 3 are bantams, 4 are Boss's kids and the other 3 are from aggietepkatie's eggs! All have feathered feet but 2!
