Such beautiful babies! They are too cute, all of them!
Last night I had the unfortunate experience of having to cull a new baby. He pipped and was making noise but needed help getting out. Once out I realized his insides were on the outside. I created a little gas chamber and ended his suffering. I felt terrible but he didn't stand a chance at survival and I didn't know if he was in pain or not. S/he would have been quite flashy I think, white with 3 black racing strips down the back (Leghorn mom, Australorp dad).
On a better note...here are pics of the babies that did make it.
This is Max, he was chewing on the incubator trying to get it open when the chicks were peeping.
and this is Spot, the boss for the moment and one my son wants to keep:
This baby in the bin was bleeding a bit from it's vent when it hatched, with help, so it's in the brooder and can see the others but won't get trampled. I've been feeding it Nurtri-drench from a dropper, won't really need to eat until tomorrow when I'll set it up with its own food and water.
