first time trying to hatch eggs. We have a broody Banty Cochin sitting on 7 eggs and today ( day 21) we heard peeping and saw a pip! We had to quickly and gently lift Mama to see. She's very sweet and did not seem to mind us picking her up, but we don't want to disturb the process. Now we are...
We also have Bantam Cochins and Silkies and have found our Cochins to be more broody. We have one sitting on 7 eggs now and she has been very dedicated. We tried it with a Silkie and she lost interest. I don't know if that is typical for those breeds, but we were told Cochins tend to be broody...

I...

We have decided, for the first time, to leave some eggs with a broody hen to see if they will hatch. When I moved one hen ( a Silkie) and the 4 eggs she was sitting on from the coop to the brooder, she lost interest and ignored the eggs. She did lay one more in the brooder...did I move her too...
HI, y'all! I am new to BYC and forums in general, so I will do my best to follow the rules! I have enjoyed reading others' posts and look forward to learning more.
We got started with chickens in March 2008, when my daughter got 20 chicks as a 4H project. She raised them and showed some in the...
