I love my barred rock hen! She lays an egg a day, sometimes jumbo sized. Even though I purchased her as a 7 mo. old, she was soon eating out of my hand and runs right over to me when I call out. She's very funny and vocal, in fact I like her best of the bunch!
Had a beautiful day here in sunny CT. Started out with a nice fire on this crisp Autumn morning. Enjoyed the morning quiet with coffee and magazines. My crew wont get up until at least 10 unless I wake them up for church and we didn't make it this morning.

Yes, it is a mini treasue hunt every day. I LOVE the chickens and find them so funny and rewarding to have around! One of my hens chases the dog around the yard. It is hysterical - I should take a video and post it on You-tube.

Got my first egg from a hen I actually raised!!! and IN the nesting box, right between two golf balls! YIPPEE!!!
The hen is 4 mos., 5 days old and it was (cause I already ate it) a "large" egg. Now I am thoroughly addicted.
This morning they had an update and said that they will look into changing the zoning laws to allow hens (no roos). They showed footage of the meeting the previous evening and there was a great turnout of "chicken people." They even mentioned how keeping chickens is a "movement" in the US...
