    :) At what age did yours start laying? I have a Barred Rock pullet who's fairly recently begun to squat, but she doesn't look quite as red in the face as your Rocky is. And when did yours get that red? A day before she started laying? Sorry for the questions; I'm just super eager for my pullets' first egg! :P

    I want to say several weeks. The easiest way to tell how close your pullet is to laying is to feel between the points of her hips. Hold her like a football, with her tail facing forward and feel for two points. A young pullets points are fairly close. One close to laying should have enough room for 3-4 fingers between them (depending on the size of your fingers).
