• RiP Goldie! Internal Laying took one of my Reds at 5 months old. She was a daily layer, and lived a good active life. Now 6 are laying almost daily. Having 4 Breeds makes it easier to count your Chickens! I'm smitten with several other Breeds, and bought an Incubator. So...
5 of 7 in my flock are now laying! 2 RiReds are daily layers at less than a 25 hrs re-charge rate, and Wiley my larger Jersey Giant is almost daily too! 2 others inspecting nests.

All 7 laid by week 23. A daily layer, Goldie, just died. Her pretty dark brown eggs, spunk will be missed. Maybe when a Critter dies, their spirit enters another - being born. May her sweet spirit be a blessing to a new family. We are lucky to love em while we can! My heart hurts. Must muck-out, sanitize, spread bedding and mulch, and necropsy to see if any action is needed to protect the flock. Wish me luck!
7 healthy Pullets happy in their new HenHouse - developing red or Pink Combs and Wattles, and personalities -- not laying yet. I sing to them if i see any sign of stress. They tolerate that, and sometimes try to sing along with me. Every night before closing the Chickie Door, i look for 2 lively RiReds, 2 sweet Black Jersey Giants, 2 voracious stripey BRs and 1 bossy vixen, Crowella deVille.
Chicks are here! 1 loss. Sold 7 to pal Cher. Kept 8. Up half the night with a vocal: NH Red. Ours: 4 breeds, 2 each, female. Exchequred Legbar: Yellow/Black. Yellow dot on head on 2 black: BarredRock. I paid extra to Meyers Hatchery for both. Unsure which brown layers the 2 black headed girls are. Will post more pics. It was hard to see 7 go away! Love those we kept!

Day 3: Chick water was dry! Love electrolyte water, dislike gro gel probiotic. I left a sample dish, n some in water so all get _good_ bugs. 1 eye-pecker is now policed by other. A wimp now grabs high-end o the roost! Removing a roost got em to sleep alongside again. The branch is in today, and OK. So political at 4 days old! They're calm as i ease in to poo scoop, soft voice, slow movement. Quiet day!
