Pros: Docile, wonderful layers of light brown eggs, outgoing personality
Cons: none
This is my favorite chicken. I only got one because she wasn't a 'pure bred', however, I wouldn't think twice about getting a whole flock of these for laying. They are very docile, have wonderful personalities, they are dual purpose. They lay large light brown eggs. Winter hearty; had mine confined all winter with a light in the coop to keep it warm. She is my most consistent layer of all my hens. She lays EVERYDAY, even in the winter and she has the most wonderful sweet personality of all my hens.
Pros: Beautiful hens
Cons: none
I have 4 of these girls and I love their appearance. I live in WA state and heard they were good in confinement and in cold areas and they have proven to be that as well as good layers throughout the winter, if you keep them warm and a light in their confined space all winter. My hens lay from light green to light olive green to light pastel blue eggs. One lays a giant sized egg and all ar wonderful hens. I have no complaints about these girls.
Pros: Dark Brown Eggs, Good foragers, docile.
Cons: other chickens will pick on them
I love my welsummers. They are really good hens and they lay beautiful dark brown eggs. They are docile and other breeds have a tendency to pick on them in confinement. Great foragers and lovely.
Pros: Roosters are gorgeous when grown & protective of hens, winter hearty, lay light brown eggs
I have some of these and I have been happy with them. I actually had the perfect flock; 1 was broody, the others were not. The rooster beautiful and protective. Light brown eggs, winter hearty. I'd recommend if you purchase for a confined space, buy all the same breed, I've heard there is less picking on other breeds by doing this. Don't know if true, only what I have read, and they did pick on my Welsummers a lot when confined & unable to get away. Good luck
